Can anyone help me? I am looking for a new car, sedan or SUV. I do not want to get a second MDX, but I want the great MDX' features.
I am particularly interested in the following MDX features: NAVI, plenty of shoulder and leg room, rear view camera. The new car has to be roomy (wide).
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. |

Here are some possibilities. I've stuck with the Japanese brands, and avoided the really expensive sedans (e.g. LS430, Q56).
Infiniti QX56 (full-sized SUV, bigger than an MDX)
Lexus GX470 (may not have quite the room you want, though)
Toyota Sienna (not sure if you'd consider a minivan)
2005 Honda Odyssey
Another set of possibilities is if you add an aftermarket backup camera (like some folks have done on this system to their older-model MDX's). That opens up vehicles like:
Honda Pilot
Nissan Pathfinder Armada (QX56's "little" brother)
Toyota Sequoia
Toyota Avalon (big for a sedan but not as wide as many SUV's)
I'm sure there are others I'm missing here. |

| You may want to wait for the new all wheel drive RL. |

At $45600??? It is too expensive for us. Need something cheaper, under $42K.
RL looks to be quite good, but it is smaller inside than MDX. I am spoiled now. :) |

I guess the $42k limit takes the new RL off your list. But you can get the "old" RL for a song nowadays, as fabvsix did (about $35k). But they may not be wide and big enough for your desires.
Was a minivan not a consideration? And is AWD a need? The Sienna is a definite minivan option as you can buy it with AWD. You can't get AWD on the new Odyssey but it'll have the backup camera, width, roominess, and navigation system -- plus some new features that probably won't be available until the next MDX (e.g. being able to shut down three cylinders when cruising for fuel economy).
If a minivan is out, I agree with the Nissan Pathfinder Armada, which can be bought relatively cheaply. It doesn't have a rear-view camera but you can add one. Consumer Reports reviewed some aftermarket ones that seem good:

Thanks a lot guys.
I checked out Armada 2004 before buying MDX. As I posted here a while ago, we did not like the noise level and strange low freq roof vibrations causing cabine pressure changes. These pressure changes are only noticeable to some sensitive people, but we did notice them, quite uncomfortable for long distance driving.
I hoped Infiniti QX56 would be a better option if they worked out the vibration issues, but it hits $50K+ with some options. :(
Minivan is not an choise for us (no kids yet).
I checked out the new 2005 RL, it looks very impressive. It does not meet all my size/price/features requirements, but it is so good that I am now desperatelly waiting for it to hit the showrooms. It is very sexy inside, has a V6 300hp/6000rpm and AWD. Hard to resist. ;)
Does anyone know when orders can be placed and when it will become available?
Should I expect it to sell at Invoice or slightly higher? We got the MDX (Tour/Nav) last December for slightly below MSRP after hard negotiations in a few NYC dealerships.
BTW, some off-topic. I just want to express the main reason why our love to MDX does not hit the roof. In first six months of using it, we got two ugly dings on the right side doors. We always park in garage at home and in most right spots of parking lots at work and shopping. I have never gotten dings before with other cars. I think MDX' sheet metal is too thin. :o |

| I think it would be difficult to get the RL below MSRP in the first year, but this really depends on the demand in your market area. |

I talked to a dealer in New York, he said RL were due on Oct 14. Their first batch of cars is already prebooked. |
