| anyone try this yet??? just wondering if the stock amp is the problem. i know a new sub would help a lot, but i'd like to know how far we can push the bose sub before it destroys itself. |

If you remove the stock sub and look at the the magnet assembly, the cone design and the surround material (the elastic component which attaches the cone to the outer rim of the woofer frame), and compare it to other subs at a store, you'll see that the stock sub is not worth keeping. You would be hard pressed to find a lower quality sub. You won't need to know much about autosound to see the difference between a paper/fabric cone and polymer composites, a foam surround compared to butyl rubber, and a 3-1/2oz magnet versus a 26 oz magnet. The Bose sub seems to be less effective than the base Alpine sub.
Most people will tell you that speakers are the single most important component in a sound system, then the amps, power production/distribution, headunit, and lastly the frequency distribution units/processors etc. |
