i'd like an oem setup so i was looking at the optional shock sensor/security system upgrade module that acura has. has anyone actually bought and/or installed this?
how much of an improvement is it? specifically the shock and window sensors. |

vqdriver,
Are you sure this is an ACURA option and not something your dealer offers through a third party? I have never heard of any option on the security system. |

I added a Code Alarm CA310 to the factory alarm. It's a basic thing and it works good. It has a dual-stage shock sensor, siren, etc, and I get to use the factory remote that comes with this MDX. All it does is to monitor the power door lock/unlock wires near the solenoid inside the driver-side door. It arms when we lock the car using the Acura remote and then disarms when we unlock the door. Got some chirps and lights action while at it.
This alarm module was $70 including shipping on the internet but installation at a local store was another $110. Originally I wanted to install it myself but got lazy and decided to let someone else do it. They can do stuff faster than I can do it!
I installed a similar Code Alarm myself (same OEM thing but older model) on my previous car and it has an extra horn output which allows it to honk with the siren whining away. The new CA310 model doesn't seem to support this horn feature (unless we add a relay and make it horn continuously instead of pulsing it). Otherwise this CA310 model is pretty ok and I'm happy with it. BTW, there's a minor wiring error shown in the CA310 installation manual - so make sure you guys catch it if you're installing it yourself. |

If I remember my dealership offered the basic alarm for like $800!!! and and upgrade for $1200!!! Don't know if they were third party from the dealership or not but either way the price was way too high. Just went out and got myself a Clifford and have been very happy with it so far. |
