Hello all again.
Got "jet pak" service per recall / TSB , told them i had a "stutter"
at about 20 MPH and very light acceleration.

They said drive now and come back if still problem. Still had problem.
Brought back and they replaced the EGR valve. That still not fix problem. So we are gonna drop it off for them to drive for a while.

Any way - The observation made is that my gas mileage has dropped from about 18.0 to about 15.0. My car has Always gotten about 18 mpg since bought new in 2001. My driving habits and where I buy gas have not changed during this time.

The only variables here are the work done by dealer.
Any thoughts? Any other similar experiences????

They probably disconnected the battery and reset the ECU (engine control unit) or whatever Acura calls it when they were doing the recall. Give it a couple of tanks of gas to "relearn".

We are also getting around 15 mpg around town in a 2004, it's been like this since day 1.

I have been stuck at 17 since day one and now almost 30K on my 2003.

I wonder if there is something with the rear wheel drive activation that isn't working correctly.
For instance, do those reporting high MPG ever switch to AWD or is their vehicle stuck in FWD. Conversly do those with low MPG stay in AWD too much?

maybe it is coicidence the egr and tranny fix.

has been about 2 months since these items.

but still bothers me (and costs me too! )

Have you put different tires on it?

Our MPG reduced just before our transmission went out and really dropped after the new transmission was put in.

I had the EGR replaced recently and haven't noticed a change in MPG.

I get about 18-19 around town, and as high as 23 mpg on long interstate trips.

I wonder if they updated the computer software to a newer version like the 2003's have. The real world mileage dropped quite a bit from 2002 to 2003. Do you notice the transmission holding first gear longer than it used to?

Changed tires last year - used the michelin's at same size as stock tire. Didnt have change then. :)

JR8 - You said this.
Our MPG reduced just before our transmission went out and really dropped after the new transmission was put in.

What year was yours? Mine is 2001 model. Can you specify what you mean by "tranny went out" ? Do you mean totally failed?
Mine is having the stuttering and is getting worse and more often.
Do you mean this?

I dont know why new tranny is make it worse.
Maybe the new ones are geared differently?

Thanks for replying....

We had a 2002 (see sig.) with about 55,000 miles.

I wasn't driving the vehicle, but my wife described it this way. When she was trying to pass someone at freeway speeds, the transmission would not "catch" and it would sound like it was revving in neutral. When she let the accelerator out, the transmission would eventually catch with a big clunk.

Later when we picked up the vehicle, the tech also told us it wouldn't go in reverse while at the dealership.

The rebuilt tranny did feel different than the original, but I am not sure why. For example when you put it into gear from a stop, let out on the brake, and the car wouldn't move from even from idle. I figured it was one of 3 things. 1. Acura gave us a rebuilt that wasn't good enough to put in other vehicles, but didn't worry about it since they didn't have to warranty ours, 2. The rebuilts have a tighter tollerance within to try and prevent future failures, 3. We just happened to get a bad rebuilt also.

I am not a transmission expert, or even close to it, so these are purely guesses and not even educated guesses.

This is just one type of tranny failure that I have read about, I think there have been other types as well.
