I have had mine for about 2 months and only had it happen once. if it happens pretty often time for a trip to the dealer.

| On occasion, my camera won't display the picture until I start to travel backwards. I think it is slow. Actually I think think it is "special". lol |

| Mine is dimmer than normal when the OK screen is presented, at the same time it times out, the rear camera gets brighter. |

In my observation the camera will not come until the Nav software has reached its disclaimer screen. Then the camera comes on. THe screen is a little dimmer until the OK button appears. I normally wait the few seconds after starting before I put it in reverse and the camera always comes on. If I have not waited for the OK message then the display will get brighter when that happens.
No big deal for me. Waiting a few seconds after starting gives me time to put on my seatbelt and sun glasses! |

| When the camera is on, touch the screen and you'll be presented with brightness controls. |

On my 2003 you touch the A/C button to get the brightness control but it doesn't work until the system is booted and is prepared to display Press OK.
I suspect that basically the dim rear camera is the default hardware setting. I have it cranked up so when the software boots enough to adjust the brightness it return to my previous setting. |

| I noticed that, the rear cam comes on whether or not ok is pressed on the disclaimer screen. Which leads me to think that the Nav has nothing to do with the cam, which would make sense. As for the brightness, my contrast is ok, but in the dark, the backup lights is what makes the cam brighter, sometimes the backup lights dont come on right away, but when it does, its bright and you can see much better. Its not the backup lights next to the brakes light that I'm refering to, if you look under where the handle to open the back door is, thats where they are, its almost looks like the lights for the license plate. |

The backup light will come on as soon as you put it in reverse, it is not necessary to press ok to use the rear cam!
However, if you put it in reverse before the OK screen is presented, you can not adjust the brigtness. You don't have to press ok to adjust the brightness but before it is presented, you can not make adjustments.
If you have it in reverse when the OK screen is presented you should notice a change in the screen, it will flicker and the brightness will adjust. |

My camera is coming up to the 2 year mark without any problems. Camera comes on instantly; it's not involved with the Navi warm up; and, once I found out how to adjust the brightness (by accident), it's a good, clear, bright image.

My rear camera comes on instantly as well...
Turn your brightness all the way up then restart your car and put it in reverse.
See if the brightness starts in a default setting then pops up to full brightness when the navi is warmed up... |

Thanks for the shortcut. I'm gonna try this later.
Is there another way to use the rear camera without shifting to "R"? |
