My MDX seems very sluggish or tight when accelerating. It just does not seem to shift quite right. I have also now noticed that when I am braking, I can feel the car downshifting fairly abruptly. I have never noticed my car downshifting when I am comming to a stop.
Is it my transmission or EGR valve or someting else?
Thanks |

you have an 04 X correct ? How many miles ? Have you had a transmission oil change yet ? How about the VTM oil change ? Sounds tranny to me !

I have an '04 with 15K miles. I had the 7,500 & 15,000 services done at the dealer. I think at 15K the did the VTM oil change.
I wonder if the messed something up when they changed the VTM fluid. |

I appears that when I brake my tranny downshifts very abruptly. I noticed that when I nrake my RPM's go up becuase my tranny downshifted. I have never had this happen before. It doesn't do it all the time, it's off and on, but now that I watch the TAch when I am braking, sometime it downshifts so abruptly that the car lurches and the RPM's go up by 500-1000 rpms when I am braking.
Any thoughts?

| That might just be the transmission's "grade logic" kicking in. Most folks don't notice it until it gets their attention, and then they notice it every time. |

I agree it seems like the so-called Grade logic control.... pretty fancy name..
I have put only 450miles on my new X. I did NOT yet notice such big rpm jump 500~1000 rpm when stopping. However, I certainly see such trend which feels obviously different from other vehicle that my family have owned or currently owns for long period of time. Those are including 4Runner, legend, X5, New Beetle, Voyager, 323 etc etc.
Never ever experienced such "smart(?)" transmission.... Well, I can NOT tell whether I like it or not yet. But definately it is different from others.
Anyway, I am way way away from calling it a problem though... Of course, if you are doubt, it is certainly suggested to consult your local dealer. |

I just wanted to keep this thread alive - I have experienced the same feeling of sluggishness - like I'm towing something. It dies not feel as spritely as it 'used to'. It's dastardly since you cannot put your finger on anything.
Has anyone explored or discussed having the computer/ auto shiftinf/ adaptive driving feature reset or re-programmed?
thanks |

i got a call from my brother-in-law yesterday that surprised me.
we both have a 2003 MDX with XX miles. over the weekend, while driving the vehicle, the VSA traction control light, VTM-4 and check engine light all came on. still driveable but very sluggish. so, he took the X into the dealer yesterday. technician reported that VTEC failed in the engine. technician said this was a problem in the 1.8 liters 4 cylinders integras. my brother-in-law reported the X felt like the engine was flooded with gas and very sluggish..couldn't pass a F150 or 4 baggers on the road...this occurence is something very new to me.... he checked the forums and did not find anything...
anyways, got run...something you guys might want to check out. |

I have not noticed the sluggishness much anymore. My wife did mention it when she was driving the car and it stalled on her once as well.
My biggest issue is with the downshifting when braking. I have now narrowed it down that it really only happens when I am going down a slight hill. The car abruptly downshifts while braking, sometimes more abrupt than others. It does not happen on a flat road. I had it in the dealer for an oil change and to fix the 200 rpm drone and I had a tech ride with me to see if he could see/feel the problem. Of course it did not downshift, but I also drove on mostly flat roads. he said that if there was a problem with the tranny, it would cause a light to come on. He thought that since no light was on, everything was operating under normal conditions and that it might be the grade logic kicking in. If that is the case, it is a annoying feature of grade logic. I am not talking about going down 5-7% grades from ski resorts, I am only talking about normal city driving. I don't think that it should be kicking in and causing the car to jerk when it downshifts.
Oh well, I guess I need to learn to live with it. At least I got the drone fixed. |
