wait for 2005 or get 2004 now - Click HERE for Original Thread

hi, we're looking to buy an MDX. is it worth waiting for 2005 or should we just get a 2004? We'll be getting a Touring without Nav, and I've read that most changes in 2005 are around Nav system, so it won't matter to us. Am I missing something?

we are also considering the new Nissan Pathfinder (coming out in October)

dennisuello,

I think you've answered your own question. Get a 2004 MDX. The changes to the 2005 MDX are subtle. One member reported an overstocked inventory of over 50 MDX's at a dealership on another thread. What this means to you is that you should be able to get an excellent deal on the 2004 MDX of your choice. Why wait? Get the 2004 MDX now and enjoy the ride.:4:

This late in the game, you should be able to get the 04 under MSRP. And the money you save, you can opt for the Nav.......

My view, FWIW,-

If you are buying - wait for the 2005 - you will ultimately have better resale value.

If you are leasing and going to give the vehicle back at the end of the lease - go with the 2004.

Go for the 05.

Regardless of features, unless you're planning to hold your 04 MDX for 6 or 7+ years (when the 04 and 05 values will be close), you'll get killed on 04 resale/residual values.

Besides Bluetooth is great, no antenna will distinguish you from the 04's and there are lots of other new goodies.

My opinion - if you're going for the Touring package, spend the extra $$ on Navi. I use my 03MDX Navi all the time; my wife's 04 TL (with 8" sctreen and more voice commands) is a huge improvement over my MDX and the 05MDX sounds even better then the 04 TL; life's too short.

Get the '04...

you should be able to save thousands...I purchased an '04 touring in August and got $4,200 off MSRP.

Awesome ride by the way!!

Tick tock, Tick tock, time is running out. The 05's will be at the dealers by next weekend......

Wait for a 2005, around November or December.

Depending on your area, you may well find very good deals on the 2005 if you're willing to wait a few more months (e.g. to around the holidays). MDX supply appears to have caught up with demand, and even well before year-end clearances a lot of folks reported deals on 2004's. There's a reason there are so many surplus 2004's sitting around!

That should continue with the 2005's, once the 2004's are cleared out. This is possibly the current MDX's last year and its price will continue to drop.

Thus, the price advantage between the 2004 and the 2005 won't be as big, especially if you factor in the resale of having a year-newer model.

There are some small upgrades in the new model that are nice to have. E.g. improved safety features in having Brake Assist added, and a better implementation of VSA that will hopefully address emergency handling issues. You may really like the integrated XM Radio.

i got my 2004 aspen pearl Touring with NAV and RES for 43500 out the door last week.

Go for the '04 now, you should be able to get $3.5K to $4K off MSRP. In 5 years, the difference in value between the '04 and '05 trade-in value will likely be only about about $2K, so the '04 is a better buy now. This does not reflect an expected price increase of $800 to $1,200 for the '05 models.

Compare trade-in values for however long you normally keep the vehicle. I use a 5 year comparison.

Since the MDX is not 5 years old, pick a similar model, I used the '99TL vs. '00TL - go to kbb.com (Kelly Blue Book or comparable site) and configure both vehicles with the same options and milage and the trade difference (now) is only about $1,800. So if you faced the same situation in Sept 1999, and opted for the '99TL with a $2.5K discount off MSRP, you ended up with a better deal by $700 by buying the '99TL.

Using this simple approach, I decided to go with the '04 model. Bought a Silver Touring w/Nav last week.

If you don't mind the colors (and they're all good), you should be able to get the 04's with or without Nav below MSRP.

Just gotta pin one dealer against the other before you sign :readit:

Good luck!

dennisuello,

Greetings and salutations. Welcome aboard. Now don't forget to show us those pics of your new MDX.:29:

Don't get the '04. The initial saving it's just not worth it. You get a one year old car instantly and your saving is minimum after it's all said and done. Enjoy a newer car with improved features.

Just went car shopping with my brother tonight. He got Touring with DVD and Navigation for $38,600.00 + taxes and licenses. Quite a battle though. Worth every penny over '05. Those who think to get an '05, be prepared to see a jump of over $1000 in MSRP. Don't expect to come anywhere near invoice either. I think to get an '05 one would have to pay at least over $3000 more than '04 now. Factor in extra taxes, fees and INTEREST, '04 now with the discount is still much better buy. BTW, there will be no cosmetic changes. I have both brochures.

A shout-out Welcome to your brother Congrats on the new purchase:2:

The Canadian pricing for the base model will be $500. more for '05

KC: I'm considering Aspen white. Do you find it difficult to keep clean? Do scratches show, or are they fairly invisible?

Aspen White is a awesome color. When the sprinklers go on near my lawn i couldn't see the white water spots that will show if it was ona darker color. It's fairly easy to keep clean too.

'05 has an msrp of +$300 over an '04 base model.

'05 has an msrp of +$522 over an '04 for a touring model with an entertainment system.

'05 has an msrp of +$1075 over an '04 for a touring model with an entertainment and navigation systems.

'05's have XM satellite radio, Antennae built into the windshield, a CD changer in the dash instead of under the driver's seat, and blue tooth cell phone capabiltiy.

I also thought the 2005

- Better seating more comfy
- Better VSA yaw control what ever that is
- Better NAV if that interests you

However no XM for Canada but maybe it can be added as an aux input?

The base indicates +500 for Canada what about the Tech package Res+Nav?

Another one down the MDX lane. I just negotiated a deal and will pick up a Sage Brush Pearl with DVD for $36500.00 with wheel locks. This dealer had to do a dealer trade. I also found out that it's not easy to find a Touring with DVD only. Most Tourings come with either navigation or both. Anyway, I also got the interest rate down to 4.20% for 60 months. Now I need to find out where to buy a set of running boards. Any suggestions?

I just bought a 2004 Touring. I got qoutes from Edmunds. I received a quote for $500 over invoice from a local dealer but they only had black, silver, and sagebrush. I used the dealer locator from Acura and searched from Bakersfield to Sacramento. I found 2 in Redrock Pearl at Acura of Concord.

The quote I got for a Touring was $35,401 including destination fee. We completed the deal in less than 2 hours.

Dealer pkg for $1280 had
- wide bodyside molding
- door edge and wheelwell edge protection strips
- wheel locks
- all weather floormats
- cargo tray

Got them down to $800 on the pkg.

I think the 2004 also has bluetooth. I don't know if it has telephone controls on the steering wheel though.

I didn't know such option exist. So your car has dvd system but no navigation? Can you add Acura navigation later?

Yes - buy them from Tim at Hondacuraworld.com :4:

Uboltpb: Actually the Aspen white really hides the dirt well . You can't see any dirt if you're standing about 5-6 feet away. Only if you're up close to it conducting an inspection.

Hobit: The DVD is probably an aftermarket that the dealer installed. If the controls for the DVD isn't from the radio, then it's an aftermarket. You can also tell by the size of the DVD screen.

Scuzy: I agree with you that it's faily easy to clean :29:

No, I got one with the factory DVD. I wouldn't touch a car equipped with an aftermarket DVD witn a ten-foot pole. By the way, most MDXs come with either Navigation or both Navigation and DVD. The dealer had to search the entire soCal just to find 2 with the color option I wanted and DVD only.

I had the same situation last year. On the last Saturday in December (28th I think) my wife and I got a brand new 03 Touring with Navi for $36,800 which I believe was below invoice and the cheapest one has ever sold for in my area. We now have 9300 miles on it and KBB says it is worth $36,500 for private party sale.

An 04 in our area where there is but one dealer within 100 was going for very near sticker and over $40K.

I just bought an '04 Touring for $34,400. The only option it had was BSM. I figure any loss in resale value on the 04 is offset by a much lower price.

You got a great deal! If I didn't want Bluetooth and XM built into the vehicle I would've done the same.

Now's a great time of the year to buy an '04. A buddy of mine is going to do the same thing.

I agree with the saving for the 2004.

Just purchased my 2004 MDX Sage with NAV/RES for $39,100, which is $79 over invoice, about 3 weeks ago. Love it so far...
