New Transmission after Jet kit install - Click HERE for Original Thread

I took my car to the dealer yesterday and told them that I had some shuddering when going around 20 mph and ask them to please check the EGR valve, so I get a phone call from them telling me that I need a new transmission.

The strange thing is that I had taken my car to a different dealer for the recall on the oil jet kit at 60,000 miles so how is it that at 67,500 miles another dealer tells me that I need a new transmission? Is the jet kit install not doing the job? or the dealer who installed the oil jet kit did not do a good job at inspecting the transmission? I am puzzle at this event but at least I am getting a free new transmission despite having 67,500 miles.

My lease ends in a couple of months and I am not sure if I should purchase my X because of this problem, any advice?

Sorry to hear that. Did you have an extended warranty for them to cover the tranny at 67k miles? I'm on the bubble of deciding to an extended warranty or not.

Apples and oranges. Most MDX tranny problems DO NOT appear to be related to the oil jet fix which is for a much less common complaint and kicked off by a recall.
The inspection that is performed as part of the recall might catch a potential problem. Too bad all tranny problems can't not be predicted with such ease.
Tranny failures are not rare, as we now know. Jet kit or not.

Emerald,

no I do not have an extended warranty so my warranty ran out 17,500 miles ago. I was surprised that the dealer itself told me that all will be cover by warranty. I guess Honda knows that there is a problem with the transmissions.

I have just started noticing rough upshifts with my 2002 at about 58,000 miles. At first I wondered if it was my imagination. But clearly something has changed.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks ssMDX01. I glad their taking care of it out side the warranty period and you didn't need to 'twist their arm'. Praises to Acura for this.

You are not alone...

Same year, same jet system, same shuddering. Did you notice the gear indicator light (that surrounds the seleced gear) blinks after the shuddering?
ssMDX01
no, I never had any indicator blinks after shuddering. My only symptoms was occasional shuddering around 20 mph and I tought it would just be a bad EGR valve but was I wrong.

Now I have to wait 7-10 days for the new transmission, meanwhile I got the TSX as a lonaer(Sweet car).

I too had my oil jet kit installed, continued experiencing vibrations at 1500 rpm and between 20-40 mph. Took it to my primary dealer (twice) who road tested the vehicle but could not replicate the issue!
The transmission performance was pronounced "within parameters".

Within a couple of weeks I started experiencing the "rumble strips" at around 1500 rpm and between 2nd and 3rd gear at around 20-30 mph, rpm's would oscillate as if the transmission is hunting for next gear and I would experience a slight judder as if going over some sort of rumble strips (this is being experienced by other s as well I believe). Again took it to the dealer, left the vehicle for the day got a phone call in the afternoon"tranmission performs according to specs as per diagnostic scan!".

By this time I had become exasperated and decided to seek a second opinion from the secondary dealer. Sure enough upon hearing the symptoms followed by a test drive (I accompanied the technician) the technician pronounced tranmission needed further investigation and a diagnostic scan. To cut a long story short my MDX is now in the garage undergoing a transmission transplant. The fault I am told pertains to an issue with the torque convertor. I am awaiting delivery and meantime driving a rental minivan.

I am also awaiting word on any warranty extensions on the vehicle by Acura after tranmission replacement. I currently have around 46,000 miles on the vehicle, has always been serviced at the dealer according to the schedule.

You'd be a fool to buy your leased MDX.
You did not get a new transmission; you received a reconditioned unit. I would return it and count your lucky stars that you do not own it.

Never heard of any manufacturer replacing a transmisison with a new one. They are all remanufactured, and should be built to newer specifications than the original one.

Besides, it was a 'new one' that went bad. So who says a new will be better?

ssMDX01 - Sorry to hear about your transmission issue. So what dealer was it that gave you the courtesy of a new transmission replacement? They're probably doing it since it was a leased vehicle.

KC 188, the dealer was Open Road Acura in Wayne, NJ. I got the X back today. The transmission feels nice and smooth, will see how it holds up.
