The new Volvo XC90 V8 offers an exceptional 325 lb-ft of torque with an output of 311 horsepower. It’s the first V8 engine in the premium SUV segment that already meets the U.S. ULEV II (Ultra Low Emission Vehicle, stage II) requirements.

It’s linked to an inspired 6-speed transmission for the power you need, when you need it.

The Volvo XC90 V8 includes the same world's-first features that have made the XC90 one of the most award-winning SUVs:

Front- and rear-energy-absorbing zones that help dissipate and distribute incoming collision force.

Passenger seats that fold flat for a luggage compartment that’s over 9.5 feet long.

Pre-charged, electronically-controlled all-wheel-drive with Instant Traction™, which provides superior traction regardless of weather or driving conditions.

Full-length Inflatable Side Curtains, which help protect against head injuries.

Where did Volvo get a V8?? This explains it. Yamaha ! Ouch, if it's like the V8 that Yamaha built for the Taurus SHO it will be a "bit.." to work on.

I'm curious, what kind of issues were there with the Taurus SHO engine that Yamaha built? I raised the Yamaha V8 issue for the Volvo in the past but some folks said that it was a very good engine?

Thanks!

The Yamaha V6 engine in the original SHO was a good engine. The V8 was not as good. There were problems with breaking cams in the V8. Also apparently Ford mechanics hated working on them (V8) because they were such a "tight" engine. Changing the plugs required removing and machining the intake manifold. Plugs last longer now so it might not be an issue. Most people I know who owned V6 SHOs were not impressed with the V8 engine. Ford has lots of good V8s. Why didn't Volvo just grab one of them and breathe on it?

Why doesn't the MDX offer Anti submarine seats?
Mayhaps that is why the Volvo costs more.

I owned two SHOs with the V6.
Ford swapped my first one out for a second (it was a real lemon, but the engine was fine).
I tried the V8 but it had lost the sport and quickness of the older model.
The engine was great though it could've used more torque.
