Just wondering, I have a converter box installed under the seat (I put it together my self, not the SAm unit). It has a relay and I have installed a switch.
My question is this, if I install a backup camera, can I use the power from the reverse lights to power the camera, and trip the relay to switch to the camera view..
So I would do this.
Install camera, ground it to the body, and connect the power to the reverse lights so it will only have power when it is in reverse. Then run a wire (along with the RCA) conencted to the same wire powering the camera, to the non powered side of the switch.. So when I put it in reverse, the camera and the conv. box is powered by the reverse lights power... I think this would work, but I am worried about what (if anything) would happen if I have the switch on (so I have video on the NAV screen) and I put it in reverse, would I overload it (since there would be 2 sources going into the relay)
What do you guys think.. as you can guess I am no electrical engineer..
Thanks

rather than using the reverse lights to power your camera and possibly risk having dimmer reverse lights, why not use the reverse lights to power a relay that controls the on/off function of the camera using a different power source?
you could have the reverse lights control the electromagnet in the relay and have the relay control both the conv and the camera's power by using another source like the accessory/cig-lighter plugs.
just my 2 cents. |
