What do you mean by standard coverage? If you're talking minimum required by law, you need to up it a bunch and replacement cost of the vehicle is not the issue. If you're talking about your collision deductible, it is a personal decision with minimal consequences one way or another. My preference is to have a high deductible and to avoid reporting damages. If you're not sure, it is time to talk to your insurance guy.
It may also be time to look at your provider. Some outfits are geared toward providing discount coverage for those looking the the minimum to register their car. If you're still with a discount outfit, consider changing. |

i wouldn't go the minimum on a new car anyways. I will always do full coverage.
100k/300k is a good point you cna get more but most will do 100/300 |

Living in Nevada check with Allstate...
they have unbelievable low rates in smaller cities and areas away from the coasts |

| Did you finance it or pay cash ? If you financed it they'll mandate collision. You'll also want gap insurance in case it gets totalled to cover the difference between the value and what you still owe on the loan. |

| Also, do you "own" the car? At least in PA, if a bank holds the title, they require full collision on the car. |

If you financed or leased the vehicle, the financing company will mandate you to get "FULL COVERAGE" which means Liability, Collision & Comprehensive coverage. I agree with "Nightguy" in getting the GAP Insurance.
Otherwise, the 100/300 coverage is sufficient and the higher the deductible, the lower your premium. |

This is excellent advice! SHMACK! Right on the nose! As for the Bodily Injury Coverage, IMHO the $100/300/50 coverage is something that is also kind of a personal decision. What do you feel comfortable with having? I'm no expert or anything... But, my understanding of this coverage is that the "limits" quoted are for what's considered a catastrophic event. I know that here in SoCal our freeways are pretty darn busy AND we all are honestly doing about 80mph+. Honestly, if I get into an accident chances are I'm gonna hit a few cars before I stop. So, to me $100/300/50 is just not that much coverage. Especially, in this state where people are sue happy and medical costs are almost criminal. But, that's just me. Make sure that you get a good understanding of what each of the coverages actually cover. Then decide what you're comfortable insuring yourself for... |
