Passenger Heated Seat Problem? - Click HERE for Original Thread

We purchased a 2004 Acura MDX Touring package this summer and the car handled beautifully during our summer vacation. With the weather cooling a bit up here in the Pacific Northwest we tested the heated seats and noted that the driver's seat warms the seat and the back portions whereas the passenger seat heat is only given off only in the bottom seat portion. Should'nt the back portion of the passenger seat be heated as well? Defect or actual Honda design?

No back heat on the passenger side -- there's a sensor there for the side airbag, which a heater would interfere with. (At least this is true for the '01s & '02s.)

Welcome..

Unfortunately due to design the passenger seat back has sensors for the airbag cut off that would not work properly with the heating elements. Therefore only bun warmers for the passenger. Stupid huh!!!!!!

For what it's worth...here are some infrared images that confirm that the passenger seat only heats in the butt area (not in the back area) whereas the drivers seat clearly heats both areas.

I second that emotion. The X seat, IMHO, is fantastic. My chair at work usually ends up killing my back by days end. I get in the X with the lumbar adjusted just right, flip that heat switch, and within 5 minutes you never would guess I had a back ache. On long drives it is by far the most comfortable seat I have used.:4:

Now if only they put in a 25 cent vibrator, the seat would be perfect.

Now while you've got that cool camera, take pictures of the outside of your house at around 1AM, and see if you can find any weak insulation spots, from where inside heat is lost. And if you want to have some fun, you can also tell who's wearing briefs, boxers, or going commando with that camera too. ;) Post the pictures to the digital picture thread.

Man, considering your Topgun alias, I sure hope you're not taking those pictures with the FLIR on an F14 from 5,000 feet.

Topgun,

FLIR = Forward Looking Infra Red. one of my previous companies had a customer named FLIR, they were into Infra Red imaging, any connection? I do like the images you uploaded, thanks for sharing!

Yep...this camera is from FLIR Systems Canada...I'm renting it for a week or two to shoot some electrical connections in a power plant. As ArtW suggested, I think the people from FLIR took their name from a military term (Forward Looking InfraRed) which I think described some infared imaging capabilities on leading edge aircraft.

In any event, I just took some shots around the house this weekend, but will try to capture more interesting subjects if they arise.

Here's a shot of my cat...(looks like an alien!)

and here's an aircraft called a Pilatus PC12 on final approach...(you can tell the engine is up front)

and last, but not least...the biggest beauty of them all....

Hi Topgun,

The last images are too cool, would be interesting if you had the chance to shoot images of the transmission and VTM after an hour driving. Nice to see technology being used for informative purposes.

Thanks again!
