Does anyone know how long an MDX should be able to sit with the keys out of the ignition and the headlights on before the battery goes completely dead? And I mean COMPLETELY dead - no interior lights, no dash lights, can't shift out of park, etc.
Here is some other potentially relevant info. The battery was brand new (replaced by Acura 1 week earlier), it was fully charged (2 highway trips totaling 100 miles immediately before being parked), the air temperature was 50-65 degrees, there were no other accessories powered on and nothing plugged into the lighter socket. Anything else you need to know?
I'm guessing it comes down to how much of a draw there is from the headlight/taillights, what the storage capacity of the battery is and how much power is required to make the dash lights flicker, but I don't have any of these facts.
Thanks! |

Lately, with the original 3 year-old battery, my MDX has refused to turn over (click, click, click) in as little as 20-25 mins with the headlights left on, but the interior lights were still on dimly. The stock battery is notoriously average in power and reserve capacity.
I'm getting the Costco replacement battery in November before winter hits, and other members have recommended the Optima Red, as well. |

FWIW,
I just replaced my year and a half old battery. I had three occasions when it wouldn't start. Once after washing it. I had the radio on for less than an hour and had to jump it. When I got the fronts tinted last week, the tint shop had to jump it. And then finally when I got it home from the tint shop and it wouldn't start after I shut it off.
I put in a DieHard gold battery and have been fine all week. I've heard the OEM battery isn't too good. |

| I replaced the OEM battery after two years and installed one of the new style Optima Red tops. My wife left the rear deck lid open one night and the interior lights were on all night...the car still started with no problem. Previous to that, it was dead as a doornail if that lid was not latched down overnight. Also, one night I had the headlights on for well over an hour doing some work on the garage door and using the car lights with no problem of the new battery going down. I put a new Optima battery in my diesel tractor which replaced my tractor battery which was twice the size of the Optima and it does a great job. They are amazing batteries and have a great warranty....well worth the extra few bucks! |
