So, is everyone experiencing the same "rusted" wheel braket problem on 04 MDX too?
I just checked my 1 week old 04 MDX underneath, well I found the rear wheel braket rusted ALREADY.

I know there has been some debate if it is normal or not normal. From my personal "research", I do think it is normal for MDX and pilot, but NOT normal for most of other OEM vehicles... I checked,

my 97 4Runner
my collegues 2003 Yukon
my collegues 2003 Landcruiser
my collegues 2004 Pilot.

Only 2004 Pilot shows the similar rust problem as my 04 MDX. hmmmmmm...

Some people said, it is difficult to apply caut any material on Wheel Braket due to brake heat problem, but all other oems I checked have thick cauting on the braket. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...... Not a very pleasant experience on 1 week old brand new "luxury" brand SUV....

Any advise?

Ok! So I should have been more specific.... I think.

The winter is coming, my 1 week old Acura already has rusted "wheel braket" underneath. Here is Michigan, the winter is extrememly long with lots of, I mean really LOTS of road salt and snow...

Don't I need to do anything on this brand new beauty? Don't you guys doing any preventative measurement before winter comes?

Any advice please.....:(

I could be ignorant, but I always thought that by getting rust proofing it will slow down the process of rusting... Thats why I got it on my 04X. In Toronto, we have the same problem... SALT...SALT..SALT...and more SALT in the winter

Thanks Jowardb!

So, what kind of rust proofing did you do on your X?

When did you do it?

Thank you in advance...

Any goo that they'd use to coat the undercarriage would almost certainly hold MORE salt & water than just leaving the metal exposed.

Did you ever look at a the steel wheels of a locomotive or boxcar? Raw, exposed steel and they last for DECADES with just a bit of surface rust -- same concept.

Good Luck!

How about using this product as DIY project?

http://www.rustcheck.com/products.asp

Is it also total waste of money? do anyone have any experience with this product?

Most of the under carriage of X seems already well covered, however, I just want to cover those a few of bare metals such as wheel braket (cast iron), and some bolt and nuts head etc etc....

It would seem if your vehicle was subjected to regular doses of salt air, or road salt, regular washings would be enough.
Of course, I live in CA..but those near the ocean get a fair amount of salt. I sure don't see rusted out cars going down the road like I did maybe 2 or 3 decades ago.
I think floorboards and fenders would go before cast iron parts.

Your case is exactly like mine, I got my X not long, looked under the car just for fun and found lots of rust :(. Click the link on my sig for details.

Since you have the most expert in thif field, I actually left a message to you in other post, where you started your rear-ended collision experience back in a few months ago.

Looking at your picture, it seems like you did some job under your X's because it seems pretty clean. Would you please decribe what you did under your X?

Thank you in advance.
