Just works for std. water bottles and up to med. size Starbucks mugs, etc. Not the best cupholders I've seen. |

Perhaps we in the USA need to stop supersizing everything at the drive thru. What passes as a "small" at McDonalds used to be called an "extra large" years ago. Pretty soon, cars will need aquarium-sized drink holders.
Conversely, what they call a "tall" at Starbucks is actually a "small". Go figure. |

| I agree the cup holders are definately flawed in design due to the numerous sizes and shapes of drink containers. "Supersizing" aside, the cup holder does not fit a plastic bottle of "C2" without teetering and tipping around curves. I have not seen the 05 but I wonder if any design changes have taken place? |

You're definitely right about the teetering and tipping around curves. Even though a standard 16.9 oz water bottle fits into the opening easily, it tips at the slightest turn, especially when full. Previous American-made SUVs of different makes that I've owned have all been able to hold such bottles without tipping. Seems like Acura should have made the openings just a tad bit deeper... |

PITA cup holders
We can't even fit a simple water bottle when taking the kids to soccer. You know, the plastic bottles similar to the ones for bicycles. |

All you need is to install an extra tank, with a tube, ala CamelBack. Drive-through: "I'll have hamburger with fries and top off my Coke tank. Thanks."
Or fill it up yourself at a gas station. Cup holders will become a thing of the past. :D |

I just got back from Wal-Mart and they have 44 oz. cupholders that attach to the bottom of the window sill and hang over the top of the door 4/$1.87. They have black and grey, didn't notice any tan. If that doesn't say classy in the MDX, I'm not sure what does ! :D Not sure if that would bother any of the airbags at all.
I can't imagine drinking 44 oz. especially if it's a "naturally" sweetened soda. That would be about 475 calories...1/5 - 1/4 of the daily recommended calories. |

So was my Toyota Tundra. It has two cup holders on the console. Both have inserts that are different size from each other or you can take the insert out to hold bigger cups. Both sides and one of the inserts have a cut out in the back to accept go cups with handles that run the full length of the cup. Pretty slickā¦and useful for a variety of sizes.:)

The key is big cupholders with stiffer rubber strips. Look at the new Accord's for instance. They hold just about anything securely.
Another note - I believe Acura did make the MDX cupholders bigger sometime after 2001, since Gatorade bottles fit in the new MDX but not mine. |
