| I've purchased a 2001 MDX with touring with off market DVD installed and running board and with 30k miles on it. I paid $24,900 for the car from a private party. Is that a good deal? I wished I knew about this site before I purchased the car. The car has been great so far but thinking about getting a 2005 maybe next year with all the problems I've been reading for the 2001 and 2002 models. |

Yoshii,
Guess what? You bought the car and it seemed like a good deal at the time, why invoke buyer's remorse? No offence intended, but be happy with your purchase and drive it, again it was the best you felt you could get at that moment, else you wouldn't have signed the check.
Others may comment differently, but I see nothing constructive coming from this as you will ALWAYS find someone who has paid more AND less than you paid, but there are too many other factors that aren't known.
Enjoy your MDX, it's a wonderful truck! JMO, Kevin |

| I also have a 2001 Touring. Keep in mind that most on this site are car enthusiasts and likely to be very critical of issues that many others would never even notice. This car is one of the top 2 or 3 SUV's on the market by most anyone's analysis. Drive the car and enjoy it. You should stick with it at least a couple of years and then make your decision. I think you will be happy with it. Good Luck!! |

| You guys are correct. The car's been great to me so far. I shouldn't have worried so much. Thanks! |

Bought mine in 2000 - put 85K carefree miles on it. Liked it so much, I just traded it for a 2005 MDX yesterday!
Ignore most of the nitpicky stuff and enjoy your ride - it's a great vehicle!!!!

| yoshi, IMHO, you got a good deal on your MDX. especially, if you haven't had any problems. I know that down here in SoCal where I live, they usually go for around $28k+. You can find them cheaper down here. It's just not that easy and they may not be in as good a condition. |

| I bought a 2001 in February 01, and (my wife mostly) put on 45k trouble free miles. The truck was so great we went out and bought an 04 this past weekend without even looking at any other SUV. Enjoy. |

From whole my heart, you made a good choice. You probably worried about all those problem post such as A/T issue, Gas Tank noise issue, noise noise noise here and there. But convince yourself that the problem "rate/probability" on this MDX compared to other cars, it is still very very low.
Those issues people here are discussing are
1. You may also notice something like "gas tank thunking" or "brake clunking", however, those are very minor. If you have such noise present, and such noise catching your nerve big time, there are lots of people here can share their experience. So join in to measure yours are excessive or not.
2. You may have high potential problem area on your A/T as Acura actually made voluntary recall (jet kit installation). However, again, consider that other OEM's don't even make recall on their chronic A/T problems. Moreover, most of normal drivers should not experience much problems with their A/T. Oh yeah~, there are still normal/ordinary drivers who had Acura MDX A/T problems. But consider that even Beemer users, lexus users, from time to time, experience A/T issue with their cars.
The positive sides are,
1. You just purchased a very nice looking SUV. Most of SUV on the markets are very "practically" designed as it is called "Utility" vehicle. You wouldn't regret about your MDX style, would you??!
2. Honda/Acura made huge amount of effort/endeavor to bring this MDX into market. Of coures, being the first Mid Luxury SUV for them, there may be some minor glitches, however, on the other hand, being the first real Mid Size Luxury SUV product, Honda/Acura engineering must have made very conservative design approach with extra extra effort. So, no matter what, I believe the MDX is one piece of their achievement (not just a ordinary car....)
3. Look at the Safety rating (NHTSA, IIHS). Those ratings don't come by any luck. You should notice that Honda/Acura put a lot of safety features into MDX.
4. You probably noticed that MDX is sorta "bang for the bucks". You would't get equivalent luxury/capability at the same price with other cars...
and 5, 6, 7 etc etc etc... You tell me, I can add more and more positve sides on MDX while I can NOT add more on the "issues" list....
Enjoy you X ! |

Amount sounds a little hit to me, because my 2002 4 year lease has a buy out of around $22000. However, that's with 48,000 miles allowed, so your low miles adds value. So, sounds about right.
My 02 has been basically trouble-free after 38000 miles. The back of the drivers seat broke off and the cup holder latch broke. Both covered by warranty and very minor.

mik28,
If you browse this website long enough, you will notice that the vast majority of 2001 MDX owners (as well as other MY owners) are very satisfied with their MDXs, and have not experienced any problems, including no transmission failures.
I, for one, own a 2001 MDX with 37K mi that I have been driving for over 3 years. Other than the EGR valve that was promptly replaced under warranty, I've had absolutely no problems at all - no thuds, no clunks, no sloshing, no buzzing, no wind noise, and no other issues of any kind :headshake. Despite the slight risk of potential transmission problems (keep in mind that this can be the case when buying any used car) MDX has proven to be the best value and the most comfortable vehicle for my intended purposes.
Making misleading statements such as the one you made above :blahblah: is completely baseless :14:, especially when it comes from someone who does not even own the MDX, and has been on this board for just a few days. If you plan on giving advice to others, at least have something concrete to back up your statements. Otherwise, it is just a bunch of :bsflag: that you are spewing. |

I have 49k on my '01 MDX. After four plus years, I can tell you it has been great. I have enjoyed every minute of it.
Enjoy your X and if your really worried about a problem buy an extended warranty. |

I would not purchase an auto that is only good when it's new. Otherwise, I would have a very large selection to choose from.
You don't have to delve too deep into NHTSA data and elsewhere, to see what vehicles are really problematic. And the MDX is not one of them. Take good care of your purchase, and enjoy the hell out of it! |
