I did a search for "engine mount" and didn't find anything related to this.
I received the recall notice about my '01 MDX transmission back in the early summer. I finally took it in to Acura of Concord, CA this week (Oct) since it was driving fine and I figured I'd do the 52,500 service at the same time. It turns out that my transmission was fine so they just installed the oil jet.
However, they found that my RIGHT FRONT ENGINE MOUNT was broken. Apparently, everything was fine when we had the car in at 45,000 miles. $400 to replace the engine mount, just 2500 miles out of warranty. I don't think I had any other choice so I accepted it. :3: The service manager said he'd keep it an extra day for the engine mount. The next day he calls to say Acura agreed to pay for the part and I just had to pay $300 labor. When I was supposed to pick it up at the end of the day, I get a call that they had problems getting it done so it would be another day. However, because of the delay, they would cover the labor! :) Good thing we have 3 cars and 2 drivers, so it didn't really inconvenience us.
So has anyone one else had any problems with the engine mount? Is that an identified problem with the MDX? I was envisioning my wife driving down the freeway and the whole engine dropping to the ground. Our lease runs out in another 6 months and we were contemplating purchasing it for the residual. Now we leaning toward just turning it in. |

| I had the same problem..... I took it in to service because my 2001 vibrates during a shift point of 2nd to 3rd.....so I took it in and they found a broken motor mount on my right side. Good thing I had a extened warranty so it was free...... I think MDX is a nice car but I don't think I will buy another one after this. |

Is this your first major problem, or one of many? |

Front-Right engine mount is not a big deal. On older cars it happens all the time. On the MDX, it has unique liquid-filled design to reduce vibration. I guess too much liquid and not enough rubber.
Engine mount failure does not mean that the engine will come loose. The portion of the mount which attaches to the engine is locked-in to the portion which is attached to the car frame. Think of a pair of chain links, with rubber to isolate the metal parts from each other. The engine will vibrate excessively, foaming up the tranny fluid and cause shifting problems, and eventually the exhaust flex-pipe will break apart, and when the rubber has completely disintegrated the engine will clank against the body like a jackhammer. Still, the engine will never fall out or come completely loose in the compartment.
Since you couldn't find any references to bad engine mounts on this site, it leads me to believe that it is an extremely rare occurence and statistically negligible. I wouldn't downgrade a vehicle just because of two known instances of a single problem.
Try to enjoy the MDX and not stress out too much. |

| I had the exact thing happen to me. Took in my 2001 with about 55,000 for recall, turns out I need a new transmission and they found a bad front motor mount, they're in the process of checking if the extended warranty will cover this. Also I have moisture coming into the passenger headlight. They said the extended warranty will not cover the light and the dealer won't do it under a good will gesture either. Stay away from Downey Acura in CA. Thinking of dumping the car and getting something else. |

I am very surprised that the dealer would not cover moisture in the headlight under the extended warranty. Was this an Acura extended or bought somewhere else?
When I got the extended warranty at time of car purchase, I was told it covered 'everything' that wasn't considered routine maintenance. I better go back and read this more carefully. |

Have you read your extended warranty contract? Does it exclude headlights that did not suffer damage?
The dealer is not the final arbiter of what's a covered extended warranty claim. Make your own determination, and if you disagree, follow the mediation, arbitration, and litigation process. |

It is an Acura extended warranty. I will go through the contract and interpret it. I might try a different dealer as well.
Relevant K language-
Art. IV-what is not covered
lenses, bulbs, sealed beams
It would seem the rationale for not covering the headlights would be because of breakage due to rocks, etc. Seal failure of the housing should be covered, IMO. I try another dealer if not I'll call corporate. |
