My car ran out of gas this morning when driving home from my friend's house. We got stock at I15 in Ontario, CA. This is a rural area. At 1:43 AM I called them, a lady quickly picked up my call. She asked me few questions about my car and the location of my car. She told me they'll send someone over in 45 minutes. To cut a long story short, the help finally arrived in an hour and fifteen minutes later. The guy poured 2 gallons of gas into my car. I signed the paper work and headed home. I am overall statisfy with Acura's service, they are professional and courteous. I wish the local roadside assistance could arrived sooner but I don't think Acura can do much about that.

wow. good to know it actually works as advertised. 1:15 is a long time to wait in that area, remote as it is. but still ok. would be interested to know if you end up getting a bill or anything in the near future. i'm sure at least a survey is coming your way.

That kind of time can be expected with just about any roadside assistance. I was checking out dog kennels last winter when I slid off an icy dirt road with one of my other cars. The area is still kind of rural but quickly building up. I called AAA, they said 45 minutes at the latest, yet it took about 1:20. The place that came is about 25 miles away. There's at least two or three other AAA affiliates that are closer. I didn't mind except that my feet had gotten wet stepping through 5 feet of snow in the ditch and my dog started getting antsy. Kind of funny how many old farmers stopped to ask me if I was ok even though they were really there to see what I had done. I know they would have helped if their tractors weren't put away for the winter.

My battery got drained out as I left the inside lights "ON" one night. The next day I called Acura's TLC , a guy came over in an hour's time and jump started the MDX.

I was dead tired, sitting inside trying to put in the key codes for the Radio and NAVI and was already tired.

I somehow forgot to tip his guy between all this and he walks down back to me after 5 min and says "Thanks for NOTHING and drove away".

Do you believe it? :D

I would have punched him and then called his supervisor. Maybe the vehicle makes a difference. I gave my guy the only $5 in my wallet (wish I had more) ONLY because he had to do a lot of crawling around in the snow to hook up the car. Amazingly I had to press him to take it. But any one of these morons can jump a car. If it's too small a job, then blame the employer for being affiliated or taking the job.

The service is free. She did inform me that the service is covered by TLC(Acura's total luxury care).

I forgot to add that my battery died when the help arrived. I think the stock battery on MDX is kind of weak.

That is the general consensus, do a search and many opted to put in optima, sears or costco batteries.

sushix,

Please tell us more about the gas tank meter on the instrument panel. When it was totally out of gas that night, was the meter pointing at E or was it below E? I'm trying to figure out when exactly the MDX is really out of gas.

With my previous car, the light comes on when it's pointing right on E, and this E means Enough and I can still keep driving it for a while (got a few gallons reserve when it's at E). What about this MDX... does E means Enough or already Empty since the MDX light comes on "early" at around 1/8 tank?

Reminds me of a Seinfeld episode - see how far we can drive after the light comes on or after it hits E:) I know a friend that goes to the gas station every time it's 1/2 tank for some unknown reason or she must be waaaaay paranoid. But not for me... if I don't see 200 miles on the trip meter, I'm not stopping for any gas!! I have to enforce this "200 miles" rule myself because every vehicle must be able to go 200 miles on a tank and this MDX must not be any different (or Acura really should have put in a larger tank in the 04 and before models!) My 200 miles target is for local roads; not freeway miles or traffic jams.

Please let us know more about the meter's needle/location when it happened. Thanks.

Another consensus is when the light comes on you have appox 10 gallons left give or take a few.

It was pointing at E. I think I drove about 35-40 miles after I saw the "0 mile" available reading.

Hmmmm, on my '02, when the amber light comes on solid (not blinking or on then off) I've got apprx 5 gallons left. When the needle hits dead on 'E', I've got about 2 gallons left. When my trip comp range hits '0', definitely less than 50 miles till manual pushing - I guess the '03/04 guages must be hyper accurate while the '01/02 are more procrastinator friendly . . .

The real queston is, if you got all 3 indicators working against you: low fuel 'idiot' light solidly lit, gas guage at or below 'E' AND trip comp range at '0', what was your EXPECTED OUTCOME ?!?!?

On my '03, it's about 3 gal. left when the fuel light is on and 0.5 gal. left when trip computer shows 0 mile.

10 gallons?

Isn't that a little more than 1/2 a tank?

I think the light comes on when there are about two or three gallons left.
laborlitigator
I agree Maik, no way that that is 10 gallons. I'd think it's more like 2 or 3.

As for the 1 1/4 hours, that's not that bad since it is around 3 in the morning.

Does Roadside Assistance continue after the warranty is up or does only occur with the warranty? TIA

My gas tank light turned on today. So did the main TPMS light this morning and the right-front tire indicator light (cold, rainy day here). Went to the gas station after work and solved all 3 lights after that (it's not fun driving with 3 warning lights on). Man... that TPMS is indeed a great feature to have...

I think it is only during the duration of the warranty.

I believe only the warranty period. 50K or 4 years which ever comes first...
