Anyone bought base instead of touring and have Good guys or circuitcity install the DVD player with headsets and remote included? Can they do a good job to get it installed without problems?
Thanks! |

| Matttttttt, don't take this personally, but I really want to know why anyone who would buy an Acura, Benz, Beemer....etc. spending more money to have a nicer vehicle will take that same vehicle to a discount box store and have a kid who just finished working on a 85 Cavalier rip into it, all in the name of saving a few bucks. Let me share a story with you about a now customer of mine who took her new ML to a big box store. I don't want to drop names, so we will call them store CC. After 4 trips to the store, she finally had them remove the system and refund her money. She came to us, and in one stop had a better product that worked. Sure, it cost her another $200, but I know having a working system for a little more was well worth it to her. Avoid the aggravation, if you are looking for something bigger or better then the factory, go to a reputable shop with good product. You may spend a little more, but the quality product that works flawlessly and the service you receive will be remembered long after price is forgotten. |

Matttt,
I got a custom install for about half the price. . . it's really a matter of preference.
Here's the link. . . http://www.acuramdx.org/forums/show...=street+effectz
I just don't like paying 2X the price for something not as good. But then again, that's just me. |

| We live in a small town and I don't see the need for NAV or on star. XM and RES are really not that necessary for us. DVD is a toy for my kids for sure. Can I get just the DVD with touring package?? That is why i think a base model will be just fine for my family. |

I also live in a small city and I thought I was crazy for getting the navigation system. But I am really glad I did because one roadtrip may it apprently clear that I can navigate any city much better than I could with mapquest or a roadmap. Sometimes you don't know where you want to go, but the freedom to be able to change plans on the fly was great.
Also, the back up camera is a great feature to boot! Can you get the camera without having the navigation system? |

DVD installs are not new things anymore and chances are that the place you go has done their fair number of installs.
A big chain at least will refund you your money.
The only reason in my opinion to go to a small shop is because you know they have a good reputation and want to support small businesses.

| Thats great that you can get a refund after they have torn your vehicle apart numerous times and hopefully gotten it back together correctly. By the way, the clips will loosen up as they are not designed to be taken apart several times, so then you have squeaks and rattles. Not 15 minutes ago, I just sold a system to a family for their 04 Odyssey after they went to CC to have the Sony 9" installed and were told there would be gaps between the sides of the monitor and the headliner. This is one of the simpler vehicles to do and they are afraid to do it, doesn't build a lot of confidence in my mind. Get the factory system or take it to a pro. |

i hate paying out the nose for factory options. freaking ridiculous. but you know what? factory integration is also freaking nice. when you're talking about something like a dvd system, it's very very nice to have the controls work in tandem with, not in spite of, your factory system. an elegant installation is worth so much more than people realize when they're gawking at something at the local good guys (myself included).
unless i have a very specific idea of what i'd want from the aftermarket, i almost always buy oem.

from what i've seen here in los angeles, there is a HUGE inconsistency in the quality of work that comes out those big stores. it really is dependant on the individual installer that's working on your car. i've seen installs that are really quite nice and well planned. others are simply hack jobs. it's not unusual to see two cars in their bays side by side with very obvious differences in workmanship. but to be fair, you're rolling the dice with small shops as well. there are reputable shops out there. find em. and hang around while they do a couple of installs. my point is, regardless of whether or not you go to a small or large store, decide based on a specific installer, cuz that's the fool who's cutting your upholstery and messing with your car. |
