Hi all,

I'm in the market for an MDX and looking at getting one of these great deals on the 04s. I was at a local dealer this week and they had a low mileage (7k) 04 MDX Touring w/ NAV and RES. It was a demo (sales manager's vehicle) but I noticed a significant amount of wear (cracking, wrinkles, lines) on the drivers seat, mostly on the sides panels where your thighs would rest. Was surprised to see that after only 7k. Was wondering how the leather seats hold up in the MDX. I'm sure using a leather care product helps.

thanks,

Mark

I have an 01 MDX and the leather seats is holding up pretty good. This is one of my concerns when I got my X.
There is a lot of factors on how it wears.

Leather care, where you park, region (hot texas vs Seattle), your waist and weight.
Also tinted windows will help.

I live in Texas and apply leather care product on it every two weeks, I am 170lbs. and my car has 20% tint and parks in a sunny area 80% of the time.

Mine's relatively new (4400 miles) and I can see some creasing on the driver seat, but nothing out of the ordinary. I use Lexol pretty frequently and will probably switch to Zaino leather care products at some point.

I've read other threads on this subject and some owners have questioned the quality of Acura's leather as well as the logic of doing the perforations. My guess is that if you keep it conditioned it will last just fine.

Mine had 2 cut marks in the 2nd row. I assumed some of my passengers may have not been as careful as they "should".

I took care of the leather with leather conditioner once every 6 months or so.

Overall, the leather in MDX is pretty thin compared to leather
in other lines (e.g. TL), or cars (e.g. Camary).

Be extra gentle :D

My favorite product is Leatherique Rejuvinator. http://www.leatherique.com/products.htm

After 7600 mi on my 04, leather is showing considerable wear. I am a heavier guy (around 280lbs.) so it doesn't surprise me it has worn so quickly as it does seem a bit on the thin side.

My 04 X has 12,000 miles on it and the leather is also creasing. I do not have this prolem with my 02 TL-P, but those seats are not perforated. The TL has more that 100,000 miles. I think the leather is thinner on my X, compared to my TL.

Just the few minimal lines here. I'm impressed with how soft the leather has remained in the nearly two years since birth. Religious leather conditioner (Zaino) treatments help. More important, my X has a pampered life in the garage, seeing very little sun time. Tinted windows and use of a solar screen provides protection against the UV meanies when it's time to go outside.

I have seen the small wrinkle lines on the sides of the seats form in the leather faster than I expected. After 72,000 miles, they have not expanded in depth or size. Only the superfiscial cracks.

Still very soft and comfortable after the harsh winters in Wisconsin as well as the heat of out summer. I am not sure of which creates the most problem- Heat or Cold.

I am about 2 weeks out from picking up my new 05 MDX tour w/nav in aspen white and I look froward to another long comfortable ride.

No problems here.

If it is a noticeable problem, perhaps they may be willing to swap out the seats or just lower the price for it.

Have to say the leather is a disappointment I have with the X. My wife is the sole driver and at 105lbs I see creases at 2500 miles! THe leather in the mdx is basically honda leather, and not comparable to that of a lexus or mercedes. That's why its called a near-luxury SUV. Not that I'm upset, I realized it when I bought it and am completely happy, just very cautious of giving the leather TLC!
