Today I picked up my 2005 Steel Blue Touring/NAVI MDX. Price: $2500 less than MSRP.
It took us about 15 mins to activate Onstar. The XM was already activated. The Navigation and specially the Voice command features are awesome. However it does take a few commands for the system to understand your accent/commands. My dealer gave me free wheel locks. Overall the ride feels solid and comfortable. Nice Car!!

I will post some pictures pretty soon...

Congrats on your new ride, nice choice in colour.

Congrats on the new X! Let's see some pics of the interior.

Congratulations!! I just picked mine up late last week. I got the '05 Billet Silver with Nav. Accessories are BSM, spoiler, cargo cover, moon roof visor. The billet color is absolutely brilliant; like a platinum. I will post pictures asap.

Gas mileage has averaged 20.5 over two tanks, with mixed driving.

BTW, do you notice any clunking or sloshing notices? I do not and have tried really hard. Seems Acura has done a great job with the acoustics on this model. Very pleased so far!!

all1cat,
Congrats on the new MDX!!I haven't heard any sloshing or clunking. I think Acura has done an excellent job. I love the voice activated navigation. Also the navigation is very accurate in the Boston Area. Even new streets are on the map. I am also enjoying a lot of XM Radio.

You mean- you didn't get a body with your MDX? I'd go back to the dealer and give him a piece of my mind.

Awesome deal !! How did you do it ? Seems like $600 over invoice is the lowest price on a '05 MDX in the threads here. What type is your body style ? Touring, NAV or RES ? Color ?

wow. you guys have inspired me to beat up the dealers even more when my lease is up in 3 years :)

No. I mean "body kit"; like BSM, fender flares, side steps and spoiler...etc. I decided to buy them from hondacuraworld because the dealer wanted $3300 for parts and labor. I ordered the same thing from hondacura for $1750; just have to add some DIY.

I figured.

It will take some work to get a good price.

1) Do your research! User groups like this is a good start. Ask your friends how much they paid. I know someone bought a 04' MDX from my dealership in May. It took him 2 months but he only paid $350 over invoice.

2) Send RFQ to all dealerships around you. Since I live in LA, this is ease. There are 6 Acura dealerships within 30 miles. Start talking to the one comes back with the lowest price. He/She is more willing to sell.

3) Try to get the upper-hand. Tell them the price you want. If they say no, just walk away. Make sure to have them call when they are want to sell but remind them that there are compititions.

4) Dealers are more like to give good price if you live close to the dealership. They are counting on you going back to them to service your cars. Better yet, they are counting on more business in the future.

Good luck!

This is not really related.
My dealer told me their is a good lease program for NSX. $6??/ month  . Well, anyway if anybody is interested, check with your dealer.

Blue seems to be a popular color choice for the 05's.
hoque
Thanks ghabicht for the picture.!!
I am enjoying my Steel Blue. Awesome color. Glad that I changed my mind to Blue before I bought it. The blue looks spectacular in bright sunlight or in the night under bulb light. As of now, it looks like a lot of the people on this forum have purchased Blue. If the trend continues we will outnumber all the Silvers on the Road :-)
Steves '05 MDX
Congrats!
I just got mine last Friday (silver/ebony touring with navi & dvd). Had 'em add a spoiler, chrome side steps & wheels. Side molding & fender flares are on order.

Now I can't decide which one to drive every morning my X or my '03 TLS. :)

Search the threads here for "resizer". I found a thread that had a link to a free download of the program "resizer", which reduces the pix to a reasonable size to upload.

After several months of research and waiting on a Steel Blue Metallic with Ebony interior, I finally did the deal today. Car was built on 11/17 and is expected at the dealership on 12/1. Now I can throw away the 4" stack of car brochures sitting in my office. Actually, I never even seriously considered anything else once I knew about bluetooth in the '05.
diverman
jldekoning,

Congrats on the new X! What color did you get?

I got my 05 Sagebrush/Ebony w/NAV about two weeks ago and try to find any excuse to drive it! I already have over 1k miles.

What else did you semi-seriously consider? What else besides the bluetooth clenched the deal?
diverman
Never mind on the color. Guess I read your post too fast!
jldekoning
diverman,

Short list of what else I initially considered.

1. Infinity FX35
2. Cadillac SRX
3. Nissan Pathfinder Armada
4. Lexus RX330
5. VW Touareg
6. Toyota Sequoia/4-Runner

Besides the Bluetooth, the Acura Navi (best bar none), XM Radio and general value for the $ of the MDX is what sold the car for me..
all1cat
Let's see if this works!

Okay, I get the feeling this one is not working. Will try again later.

Okay, so these are a little blurry. They didn't look like that before I uploaded to imagestation. Anyone know how to work around that?

Bought an 04 touring in August $4,200 off of invoice which appears to be slightly under invoice...waiting till the end of the month helps as well
diverman
jldekoning,

If the MDX didn't exist, which of the other vehicles listed in your post would you have purchased? I am just curious as to what MDX owners would pick as "second" best.
jldekoning
Diverman,

Tough call. Because of the 3rd row, I think that the Pathfinder, Pathfinder Armada or Sequoia would be high on the list although the FX35 was a blast to drive.

I've been a lurker on this board for awhile, but thought I would reply since I'll be in the market to replace my 02 Explorer in March and the MDX is at the top of the list, along with the Volvo XC90.

I need six seats, don't want a truck again, want to keep it under 190" and get decent fuel economy. With those specs, the MDX and XC90 are the only contenders (Pilot too, but not enough luxury features). The MDX adds xm radio (no satellite on Volvo yet), navi w/rear camera and a lower price. The Volvo has more style (sorry, the MDX is looking a bit dated now and needs an interior upgrade). But service is more convenient for Acura.

Believe it or not, color is a major issue for me (I'm a graphic designer) and I love red. I don't like the MDX red, but the Volvo red is a beaut. So would I get the Steel Blue or the Sagebrush? Too bad they discontinued the bronze and deep blue from last year.

jldekoning
I agree that the XC90 is also a good contender with the MDX and did look at it intially. However, the 5 cylinder engine is barely adequate to power the vehicle and pricing out a 6 cylinder comparibly with the MDX shows a MSRP of $48,765 (not including Rear Seat Entertainment). Compare that with the MSRP of the MDX with Touring, Navi and RES for a MSRP of $44,345 and you have a delta of $4,500 plus $1,800 for Rear Seat Entertainment (estimate) and you're at $6K more. Also, you can't get the bluetooth feature in the volvo as a factory option and the navi in the Acura is far and away superior to anything else on the market.

Yes, I have the Ebony interior. I have yet to see another Steel Blue with the gray interior.

I test drove the XC90 before buying the MDX. It is totally underpowered and I was not at all impressed with the ride. It was stiff and uninspiring. Additionally the interior design is horrible. Didn't like the dashboard layout. Also I think when compared to the MDX, the XC90 lookes pretty insipid from the back and the front.

Overall, I was not at all impressed with the XC90. Glad that I stayed away from it.
diverman
hoque,

What other SUVs did you drive that you think gives the X competition? Anybody else feel free to chime in.

I test drove quite a few SUVs (nothing at a higher price-point though) and nothing compared to the X!

I totally don't like the XC90. In fact, I think it sucks. I went to the Lexus Taste of Luxury event and got to test drive the RX330, ML500, BMW X3, MDX, XC90, Land Rover and LX470. I'd say the XC90 is the worst SUV in the pack. Totally underpower and noisy. It doesn't look/feel like a luxury car. It seems that MDX still delivers the best value if this is what you are looking for.

I'm sorry but I totally don't get it when you say the XC90 has more style...

I like the RX but it can only seats 5.

Style is of course very subjective. I like the sculpted look of the XC90 vs. the more rounded look of the MDX. Although the XC90 interior has its problems, the MDX is looking dated inside, especially when compared to the newer Acuras. The plood has got to go. (But hey, what do I know, I drive an Explorer!:( )

I do think the MDX gives great value for the money, and is loaded with more goodies than any money will buy with the Volvo. It seems like an excellent car, and most of you love yours! :4: :4: :4:
diverman
td284,

Go for the Sagebrush Pearl! I is a great color! Looks either charcoal grey or dark green depending on how the light hits it. 05 is the first year it comes with ebony interior in addition to the quartz. Also looks good with the brushed side steps.

I don't think the X looks outdated but maybe I am a little biased?
hoque
Even though taste and choice is very subjective, I think the XC90 overall is not a good vehicle. The Consumer Reports reviews and reliability ratings are horrible. Also I don't think the MDX looks are dated. It is still the sexiest looking SUV on the Road. Nice curves!! If there is one vehicle that stands out from a mile, its still the MDX. Nothing even comes close except the RX330. Personally with all due respect and on the basis of Looks, XC90 is in the bottom of my list.

Diverman,
We had our eyes on (and test drove) the MDX, RX330, Highlander and Pilot. Also Sienna and Odyssey was being considered. ML 500/550 is a piece of crap (looks like MB USA has totally screwed it up) We were looking for 7 seats (hence X5 and RX330 out of the picture) and wanted a luxury brand. I personally also wanted to stay away from Minivans (didn't want to look like a soccer daddy!!. Due respect to all the people who drive minivans)That said the obvious choice was MDX. If not for the 7 seats, I will also buy the RX 300 anyday. The MDX is the best value for the money with all the features it provides. That said, I want to start a new thread...

What features would you like to be added in your MDX ?

Let me start off...

HID headlights
Automatic door locks
Laser guided adaptive Cruise Control
The New real-time traffic update (2005 RL)
MP3 Playback capabilities

Please add on...

Thanks,

jldekoning
I'd like to be able to view the DVD from the RES on the Nav display when the vehicle is in Park. I know that the system can be hacked to do this but don't want to tear apart a brand new $40,000 vehicle and start spicing wires. RX330 has this feature and I don't think it would cost much to add the wiring at the factory. Also, I would like to see the Plood go and have brushed aluminum in it's place. Finally, I would like to see an "tiptronic" type tranny with buttons or paddles behind the steering wheel.
hoque
I spoke to "streeteffectz" in New Jersey and they mentioned that displaying DVD on the NAVI screen of the MDX is the easiest thing to do. They have done many installs like this.
diverman
I thik that two of the most important features to me are the laser guided adaptive cruise control and the real-time traffic update. I am a little surprised the X doesn't have either this year since Lexus has had it for some time.

I would also like to see a larger engine but I guess that is coming in 07.

• More storage! Bottle holders in the front doors, a place for sunglasses and phones and a better console storage area. The Pilot has a nice tilt out section that's good for phones (although it has a column shifter, so lots more console space).

• Definitely brushed metal or nicer plood on the dash and doors.

• More exterior color choices. A richer red, a charcoal, bring back the bronze and maybe even a deep terra-cotta (I guess we can't call it Rust!)

• A lighter interior color
Advertisement
hoque
If the Plood is maintained properly (regularly dusted and polished/cleaned) it looks awesome. However I agree that they should look at "brushed metal" options.

As far as colors, my biggest complaint is that the color choices for the MDX should be different from the Pilot or any other Honda cars. We already pay a premium ($10000 over) for the MDX. Hence I would like my colors also to be different and more elite looking than the Pilot. Toyota/Lexus has always done this. Their colors are all specific to a particular Car and most importantly the Lexus cars have different colors from the Toyota Cars. Personally I think the Toyota/Lexus colors are much better looking than the conservative Honda colors.
It is very cheap of Acura to have the same color sets for the Pilot and the MDX just because they are all manufactured in the same location. Color(along with features) is something that should differentiate the Honda cars and the Luxury line of Acura Cars.

Just picked up my new 2005 MDX. The 2002 lease expired and I couldn't find a car, err SUV, I liked more. I moved from the base unit up to the Tour with NAV. Wow, I never realized what I was missing. Vehicle Stability, Blue Tooth, XM, NAV, OnStar.... What changes have been made! It is't the same vehicle. Such an upgrade. If it ever stops raining, I'll snap some pictures.
I had trouble deciding on Aspen white or the slate blue. I finally decided on the Aspen white. Love the color.

I bought it from Ed Napleton Acura in Elmhurst, IL. Got it for 40,500 PLUS t & t- including Towing Pkg and Rear Spoiler, both options of my choice, not theirs. What a professional experience. Great to deal with sooooo competative. As much as I hated the local dealer here in Madison who just threw me the keys and pointed to my car for my 2002, these people took over an hour going over the features and options of the 05. Quite a bit different than I was used to from our Wisconsin dealer.

I cannot say enough about these people. Great experience, just like I'd expect from a quality dealer.

Picked up my 2005 Alpine White Touring MDX with navigation and RES. Thrilled with the vehicle and appreciate all the helpful comments from people here.

It's going to take me a long time to read the regular manual and the navigaton manual.

uboltpb, I am about to join you and others in this forum as a new owner of an MDX. For me - '05 Aspen Pearl White (apparently same as uboltpb) Touring w/ NAVI (but not RES).

Added BSM, spoiler, and receive hitch/tow kit.

Since I don't have it yet - no pics available.

Will try to post next day or two as well as pricing info for those who might can use the info.

Guess I will have to change my ID also after today.

Check to make sure they install both coolers (ATF and PS) for your hitch package. I'm on my way to Acura in a few minutes to ask them
WHY THE FREAKIN HECK DID THEY ONLY INSTALL THE POWER STEERING COOLER AND NOT THE ATF COOLER??????

You can download the installation instructions from hondacuraworld.com; it has pictures of both coolers.

will do. My rep and I discussed BOTH cooler lines more than once, so I am sure they did but I will "verify" also. Thanks for the reminder.

MDX just got dropped off mid-afternoon....aspen pearl white looks kind of dreary on a rainy, cloudy Texas afternoon, but it sure has that nice leather smell going for it.

Anxious to get my Motorola V710 bluetooth and the X linked up and play around with that combination some tonight.

Take some Navi 'lessons' by using the Voice Command Help lists. It's like learning a new language, but it's very rewarding.
telstar
This is such an interesting experience. Reading in the manual and trying to remember what was read when I ma in the X. What seems so obvious in the manual is too easily forgotten when you are alone in the car trying to get the Nav to respond to my commands. All very rewarding when it does as you request rather than something completely different.

Good luck closetobuying05 on the new Aspen White MDX. I know how much I love my SUV in Aspen White. Great decision.

In the month I have owned my X I fell like I have gotten pretty good with the voice commands but when I try to "perform" for my friends it doesn't seem to go so well. I feel like a magician who can't pull the rabbit out of the hat!

Guess I need to keep working on my acuraspeak!
slocko
Same thing here. I am even to the point where I can speak in my normal low voice and it responds. The other day I actually was able to put in an address by voice on the navi. Phone and radio commands I have down pat.

The key is to learn the appropiate prefixes that narrow down the choices for the Navi.

But like you, when I try to show off for my friends, it makes me look bad :D

Initially I had some issues. The system was always interpreting my command differently. However once we connected, it was awesome. Its like learning a new language. Now even if I talk slowly and softly, the system gets it correctly.

I guess the key is to get the right talking speed and accent...

The 2 together cost around $190. I bought it from Tim (hondacuraworld.com). It is extremely easy to install. Tim's website has all the instructions.

Thanks.
