| Has anyone heard anything new regarding the 2006 MDX being a total redesign? |

I have heard the 2007 is a major (not sure if "total") redesign, but not 2006. Was in a posting buried in a honda forum I believe.
I am keen to hear more since I am a day away from locking in a 2005 order (tomorrow). Anyone heard the 2006 is the redesign, not the 2007 or later ? |

| I think I'm in the same boat. Ready to jump on the 2005, but want to see if they beef up the engine and maybe add some of the cool electronics, like the traffic monitor, from the new RL. |

Motortrend forecasted a re-designed MDX in 2006.
Some said a 3.8L VTEC can be expected.
There has been a lot of discussion on this board as well.
I think it's likely to happen, since it's been discouraging to see no real major improvement over the
last 4 years for MDX.... |

northern, yep, I found this now....article dated Sept, 2004, predicts 2006 redesign of the MDX -

I fear I'm too far committed...guess the depreciation will be a bit higher this year than before. Oh well. |

| Based off the information that is out now, do ya'll think it's worth holding out for the 2006 model? |

That would be like buying Windows 3.0 . Totally New! Totally Improved! (And by the second year, we may have many of the bugs worked out!)
Wait for 3.1 in 2007. |

Its never advisable to buy a car in its first model year. There will definitely be issues/problems. You have to give acura some years to get customer feedback and correct the issue. Specially if it is a new engine/transmission, there will be risks. Is it worth taking that risk on a $42K Car ?
That said on the same token, the 2005 Model has corrected all our issues/concerns (except HID light:-)). It has come a long way from the introductory 2001 model year.
Go get the 2005 rather than risking 2006 (if it is a total redesign) |

Because the '05 incorporated OnStar & Bluetooth (two technologies I have been waiting for), and is WELL-proven now after several years of the stable design...even knowing a re-design may be looming for '06, I am comfortable w/ this purchase and really the thought of "holding back" for one more is worse than the fear of buying the '05 in the face of a redesigned '06.
The MDX's nice, slow, safe depreciation rate makes this a decent choice.
If this was the '05 suburbanor domestic manufacturer model facing an '06 redesign...ouch...watch out below for the '05 price. |

I think Honda does 5 year cycles, so 2006 seems logical.
The way I look at it, when my lease is up in 3 years, I should be able to get a good deal on the redesign since it would have been out for a while.
The 2005 has everthing I want and fulfills my needs today.
The only thing I am looking forward to, is tighter integration with the navi screen. I want all MID information on the navi screen. And a bigger screen like the 2005 Odyssey or even bigger. The bigger the better.
Better bluetooth integration.
Better stereo is always welcome, even thought I am happy with the Bose in the 2005.
IPOD integration or some other alternative from factory would also be welcome.
Radio key like the RL.
If they can make it a little bigger so the the 3rd is more functional, that would be welcome too.
As you can see, it's more gravy than meats and potatoes for me.
Stylistically I am happy with the current styling. But you never know what beautiful design they can dream up. Just look at what they did with the RL. |

This is purely speculation, but I'd bet the next-gen MDX will have:
- A modified version of the Odyssey V6, with cylinder deactivation and noise-reduction engine mounts. Reason: Acura wants to make sure they make the vehicle look economical.
- Xenons. I'm less sure of this but you would think after all these years and all its competitors having xenons, it's time.
- Traffic alert system as in the new RL.
- A runflat tire package in Touring trims. The new Odyssey has this.
- Both sections of the second row slide forward for access to the third row, as with the Pilot. |

I'm sure some knows someone who knows! or someone knows and is reading this.
Is 2006 the redesign year Yes or No and if yes what one little tidbit to help confirm. We will keep the secret and plan accordingly. I'm a Canuck as you can tell. The 2005 does not have XM or OnStar and who knows what else is missing from the Canadian version. They never tell you what is missing. However by 2006 maybe just maybe XM will get a license to operate in Canada and I can get XM legally and integrated.:D
Please let just us little people know. |

It's more than just a license- the XM satellite is over the Equator- the farther north you go, the more drastic the angle is to the satellite. In NY, a shallow hill to the south of the car will block XM temporarily. |
