Hi all,
I have recently purchased a 2001 MDX with touring. The car has been great so far except for the SRS light that stays on. The person who sold me the car told me he's been trying to get his dealer to fix the problem since 3k miles. According to him, the computer was resetted and the passenger side seat buckel was replaced but the light keeps coming back on. Since the car is still under the original warranty (until June 2005), I have decided to bring the car to the dealer closer to my house. They keep telling me I should really go back to the original dealer who's been handling this problem. They gave me a loaner and told me they will try to fix the problem. Well, I bought the car back to that dealer today because the light was off only temporary (came back on after 1 trip) Is there something I can do about this if they don't address the problem? The original dealer is 3 hours away and it's not feasible for me to drive all the way there for them to fix the problem. I think any Acura dealer should be responsible for this regardless who worked on the problem first. Can I file a complaint with the headquarter if my current service dealer doesn't fix the problem? I really need help on this!
Thanks |

You can take your vehicle to ANY Acura dealer for warranty repairs. There is no requirement that you go to the original dealer.
I would first call your nearest dealer, the one that didn't want to work on the vehicle, and ask to speak to the service manager. Ask him/her why you were told to go to the original dealer. Did they intend to imply that they don't want you as a customer? If the service manager doesn't make things right, then ask to speak to the general manager and ask him/her why their service department doesn't want you as a customer.
Once that it settled, I'd ask the service manager to set up a metting with the regional service rep. for Acura. Ask them to have the service history for your vehicle available at the meeting. If the records do in fact show a repetitive problem with the SRS system then ask them what they are going to do to solve the problem once and for all.
If you are willing to go that far they realize that you're serious. They will probably do everything possible to solve the problem.
Most state's Lemon Law's do not cover used cars, so you're probably out of luck there. You still have many avenues open to you. The SRS system is a serious safety issue that Acura doesn't want problems with.
Good luck! |

From what I recall, the SRS light (yellow?) comes on when a child is sitting in the passanger seat, the senors turn the bags off because a light person is in the seat.
This sounds like a sensor issue, do you have anything on the passanger seat when the light comes on?
Nothing to do with the seat belt...I think |

| That was my first inclination, do you leave anything on the passenger seat? If so that is your problem. But it seems from your description like something else. Take it to your nearest one and follow what csimo said. Also did the seller notify you of this problem before hand? If not that is a rotten thing to do, you are losing time ( from work) and money ( if not warranty related) he should have let you know before the sale. |

As already stated ANY Acura dealer can fix the problem. I had to put my old '01 in the shop twice for SRS related warranty work. See this thread for posts related to the problems I had in my old '01:

| Thanks for replying. This is the "red" SRS light that stays on constantly. The problem is that the dealer cannot identify a code that tells them whats wrong with the SRS. So the BS they are giving me is they don't know what to fix. IS there a way I can contact Acura headquarter directly to deal with this? |

| I had the "red SRS light on constantly" problem in my '01. The dealer replaced (twice) something beneath the front passenger's seat; I'll see if my paperwork gives any details tomorrow if I have the time. |

| Just so you know- that red SRS warning light is telling you that your airbag system has shut itself down. That means you have no airbags in a crash. |

| Just had that problem fixed at 53000 miles on my '01. It was a seat sensor that needed replacing. |
