I just ordered an MDZ 2005 and I'm realy concern of the redesign changes anounced for the 2006 model. The 3,8 V6 new engine doesnt concern me, but the extrior and interior changes do if they are important.
Does anyone have a clue on what the new 2006 model wil look like ?
Thanks |

No... And if anyone tells you otherwise, they are just making it up. |

| The way some SUV's are going, I'd expect some more rounded off corners. |

| I saw a spyshot on Car & Driver television about a month ago. I couldn't really tell because it was camouflaged, but it looked similar to the current one. Subtle changes like the new Odyssey compared to the old one. They said that it would still be a V-6, but with over 300hp. They also mentioned that it would be released as either as a '06 or '07 model. |

| One thing is for sure and that is the quality of the interior is bound to be light years ahead of the current one and this you can pretty much confirm by looking at the new generation Acura's. |

Yep, just saw this segment on TiVo. They also said the V6 would be 3.7L, it would have the new AWD system, and be slightly longer. Looks like Honda will finally differentiate the MDX from the Pilot in giving it the power its looks deserve. :roadtrip:
But is it enough to compete with the big boys? C&D next mentioned the 2006 Jeep Commander with 3 row, 7 passenger seating and either a 4.7L or 5.7L hemi V8. |

This one:
"November 20-21 [cf also Sept 25-6]
We’ll take a look at the new Dakota, Dodge’s light truck with big pickup. Then it’s the Cobra Concept from Ford — this automotive idea may become reality. Plus, it’s a test of the new Jaguar with new power, the S-type R."

It was a really short segment--everthing's already been repeated here by gdot & me. The pictures were old--they were already posted a long time ago here I think. |

| I guess I was more interested in seeing the "spy pic" , but since you say it's an old one I probably know which one you're talking about (It was heavily camouflouged and I think I saw it on vtec.net) |

The powertrain that will undoubtedly be competitive will be the hybrid version |

All the specialised auto guides are out for Christmas and they all say the MDX will be redesigned for the 2007 model (launched mid 2006) and that the 3.8 v6 engine (note a 3.7 as indicated by another respondant) will be one of the major changes.

Ouch! That's a long wait......
I'll probably trade my 2002 for a 2005 and trade again for the 2007 if it looks as good as it sounds...
In the meantime I will be test driving an LR3 next week (just for kicks more than anything). I'm tired of reading all the hype and want to see what is really up. Some new owners are reporting gas mileage in the 10 mpg range! Talk about a deal killer!!!
Thanks for the info, Michel. |

Per an article on hybrid cars in Newsweek, the 2006 MDX will be a hybrid. If it's in print , it must be true. :-)

I spoke to good source...in 2006 there will be a new mid size SUV introduced by Acura, it's called an RDX, basically it's a decked out CRV......
the new MDX will be released in 2008... |
|
|
| anjan |
I also found from a reliable source that the 2008 MDX will have four wheels and five doors. They are also certainly decided on putting headlights and taillights on it...

......you mean't that it will be the 2008 Model year to be out in the fall of 2007, right??
....actually some others here, including some quoting magazine articles, have said that it will be out in mid 2006 as an early 2007 model........actually that sounds more reasonable to me, considering that the MDX has been on the market quite some time now (especially taking into account how fiercely competitive this market segment is) |

I guess we will have to wait and see
thats what my local acura dealer told me anyways
2006 is the RDX.......a redesigned and deckedout CRV...
2008 will be the new Acura MDX......
Usually they have about 6-7 year refresh rate, but who knows.

Well you X mungers. I'm more confused than I was before popping the question (lol).
Well don't mather, I realy dig my 2005 X and will probably be in line for the next generation

In the latest edition of Newsweek magazine there's an article on hybrid vehicles. It lists the 2006 MDX as a new hybrid vehicle.

Just visited my Acura dealer to look at the 2005's to see if they fixed my minor wish list yet: knob for adjusting AC fan; dual zone temp in front seat....
Sales person said; no, wait til the next generation MDX; probably will have all that. Due out in 1-2 years (not too precise) It will be based on the 'Acer' (I think that's what I heard) frame now on the 2005 Odyssey - will give much better crash protection to car, contents, and crashee. Also expect it to have the smarter all wheel drive on this year's RL -- SH-awd.
And, he said, that's probably where the Hybrid will also come in; but expect only 40-50% improvement in gas mileage. (would take 250,000 miles of driving to get your investment back) But it's the principle of the thing.

While the salesman could be right on some of the upcoming features, I wouldn't place much faith on people would cannot even predict a delivery date!
Spy sites usually have more precise information but they have been coming up dry like they do because of Honda's secretiveness. I can tell you the following things based on information I've culled from different places -
- The 2007 MDX will have Honda's Cylinder Management System (CMS), not a hybrid. CMS is what's in the 2005 Odyssey. The difference is not only in price (CMS being cheaper) but the savings which are mainly realized on cruising speeds when it turns off 3 of the cylinders.
- The VTM-4 system on the 2005 MDX is already upgraded and if you go to Acura's site, it will tell you the differences. Its safe to assume that it has taken things from RL's AWD. Keep in mind that RL's exact AWD will not be photocopied onto the MDX. Only a dealer will be blind to the obvious differences between a sedan and a SUV. :)
Besides that, almost everything else right now seems to be conjectures of whoever is trying some astrological prediction on the final model. Come to think of it, this is too early for even the engineers at Acura to know what will be in the final design. |

anjan,
I was looking around on Acura's web site for information on the VTM-4 system on the 2005 MDX but couldn't find it. Can you tell me how it has been upgraded? |

Well I see that the thread is not dead and that some are still lost in conjuncture with regards to major redesign dates and technological upgrades.
My humble appraisal indicates that the X will not change before 2007 cause there ain't any spy indication that it will. But if there were changes, they would certainly be major. The body needs a tuck for the future. WE can see the direction Honda (excuse my french!) Acura, I mean... is taking with the flat boys (RL -TL TSX, ...)
My guess is that the X will get a major nose job, The Rear end is great looking and it would be a shame to play with that booty - don't you agree ? The lights will be updated to the new Zion lights (or whatever you call them) and the color scheme will certainly reflect the new tendencies of the market.
I am betting my next monthly car payment that the interior will undergo major changes. Just by seeing the Flat boys gives you a pretty good idea what is on the drawing board. Plus I have difficulty seeing a brand new mid-size SUV being introduced more that 12 months before the redesign of the X! It would seem suicidal from a marketing stand point for the X.
Major changes should include reduction of gaz consumption you say ? I don't think so! Unless it's Hybrid. And just by looking at the availability of Hybrid SUV and trucks tells me that you will be in line for at least 24 months for your next pricey SUV. That means don't hold your breath !!!!!
I do believe that balance is crucial. For the X that means that price considerations (low end luxury SUV market). In fact the introduction of the Hybrid option (5 to 7 clicks more expensive) will affect the market price consumers are prepared to pay for that SUV.
Take the Toyota Highlander (SUV wannabe). It was announced everywhere it would launch it's Hybrid engine for late 2004 or early 2005. My wife wanted it badly !!!! You can still find it on major car websites by typing Highlander Hybrid. So why is it not out yet ? Because US$ is at a record low some financial analysts say!
Well, my lease is up in 35 months and I hope they come up with the new redesigned model in time for my X craving (hehe).
Well It's snowing again this morning and I'm enjoying every inch of snow!
enjoy!

Diverman,
Here is a link from Hondanews.com - 2005 Acura MDX . I confused between VTM-4 and VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist) :13: . For 2005, they have upgraded the VSA Module. |

For a relative newbie you have a very very good grasp on MANY things related to Acura & the overall auto industry cycle.
A relative is an exec at a OEM supplier to Honda/Acura -- they've recently gotten the spec for the bits of the 2006 CALENDAR YEAR MDX. Major face surgery! It will almost certainly be a 2007 MY vehicle, but whether it is "early", normal, or "late" will be determined by several factors that are fluid.
Honda is run by managers who have a very very hard line view of the meaning of ROI, and they won't lose money building hybrids that cost more to make than they can reasonably expect to sell 'em for, so there is a STRONG possibility that US economy will determine the fate of Acura SUV hybrid(s)...
The one thing I disagree with is the active cylinder management system that can make the V6 shut off half the displacement. Honda can make that for a fraction of the hybrid, and they might use it as a competitive advantage: " Our SUV gets better hiway MPG than the Lexus hybrid and is simpler to oen & maintain..."

| I regularly read these posts concerning future MDX model changes to keep abreast of the rumours, conjecture, spy reports, etc. Timing is everything, as far as I'm concerned. I was in the MDX class of '01, traded in for an '04 and, will wait for the next generation --probably '07 before I trade up again. I have installed many of the newer model features in my '04 (XM radio, Bluetooth handsfree device, and rear entertainment system). I really like all the features in our '04 TL and that will hold me til the new MDX reaches that point. |
