should i still be concern with the tranny issue of the x for a 2004 model? what else are the other issues, if any, i should be aware of? i really like the ride of the x and the deal that is being offered to me is great that's why i have these questions. i'm trading a 2004 ml 350 which i really like esp. the std features, except that the family can't get used to it's trucky ride.just being suspecious why the dealer is practically giving the '04 x(touring), and so anxious to get my ml? yealy inventory i guess since the '05s are out?

Sorry I don't own an 04 so can't give you feedbacks.

Maybe it's too new to have significant tranny issue?

Come-on, 04 owners, don't let this guy
down :4:

Here are some info from other sources

I have a 2004 with 5400 miles in 10 weeks. No tranny issues at this point. I suspect that the 04 is too new to have had problems develop. I have found NO quality issues/problems of any type. I find the vehicle very solid and a pleasure to drive.

Have some design issues such as

* 12 volt power ports are only on when ignition key is on
* Roof rack is not adjustable
* Front drink holder is not easily removed to clean
* Tail gate window does not open independently of tail gate
* 2. When it rains the law, and good sense, requires that the headlights be turned on. The MDX is smart enough to turn on the windshield wipers but not the headlights. I am used to GM cars and so far have an intermittent success rate in remembering to turn on the lights. The big problem arrives when I fail to turn the lights off after I stop. The little alarm that is supposed to warn the driver about leaving lights on after switching off the ignition is what Arnold would call a "girly alarm." It puts out this pathetic little Ting, Ting. Anybody know how to make this loud enough to be noticed?
* Even though the inside of the vehicle is designed with 48" between the wheel wells, the tail gate opening at floor level is less than 48"

I would recommend the body side moldings to hopefully assist in protecting against careless people opening their doors into your X. I already have a major door ding and am in the process of getting the molding.

Would I buy another MDX? YES

We have an 04 with mid-3k miles on it. No transmission problem. It shifts nice and fast, and at the right/appropriate rpms.

The only thing that I don't like about this transmission (design issue as some will say) is it doesn't hold the vehicle on a hill/slope. Say we're stopped on a slope (even a gentle slope like our driveway), and take the foot off the brake pedal, this MDX will roll backwards. Other good vehicles/transmissions (and our other truck) know which way it's supposed to go or at least stay put there...

From 2003 and on, the tranny has been redesigned from the 2001 and 2002 trannies which are part of the tranny recall.

I guess you can rephrase and ask if there have been problems with the 2003-2004 trannies.

BTW,

18k on mines (2003)and no problems with the tranny so far ;)

Have you used the search function to search for tranny issues?
As for what other issues you need to worry about, you'll need to keep browsing the forums to form your own opinion. There is a word which describes being worried about problems when you have no reason to believe that any exist. Are you looking for a list of the top 27 issues with the MDX?
Its not because this site is not helpful. Its just that what you are asking for is not easily answer-able because we don't know what your expectations are and what your pet peeves are.

If you ask what people like or don't like ("issues"), you'll get extremely varied answers and not necessarily any consistent patterns of concerns. There isn't any serious and particular problem for which a whole lot of people have had the same problem. Even the tranny recall was the result of only a very small number of complaints. Same with the broken swaybar link, dead stereo, premature battery failure, timing belt tensioner defect, gas tank thud, navi errors, etc. I think the general opinion on this site is that there isn't anything either serious enough or frequent enough to warrant a "warning" to potential buyers.

As you continue browsing the forum threads, try to keep count of how many members are overall disatisfied with their MDX and have switched out to a competing SUV model.

Hope you find resolution to your unformed (possibly phantom?) concerns. Good luck.

i'm in a 2k4 with 4700 miles on it in 3 monthes. no tranny problems yet. maybe the occasional 'clunking' underneath is the tranny???? don't know about the recall either, unless it's the same one as for the pilot.

no 'problems' so far that would have changed my purchasing decision had i known before i laid out the cash. woulda bought the x regardless of a couple abovementioned design quibbles.

No tranny issues here. We've only had our '04 MDX for a couple months, but have driven it hard - 90+mph (the + was a lot more than 90 on one run) on the highway, some off-roading as short cuts to backtrack to ball fields we missed or get out of a long line of left turn nuts, lots of stop-and-go stuff, etc.

My wife drives slightly less aggressively than I do. Everything it tip-top. The main thing we don't like is the auto shift point for first gear - 5500 is too low. The MDX just gets to the sweet spot of the power band and then some bonehead acura engineer decided that would be the right shift point - instead of letting the engine get a little deeper into the band (if you floor it, of course).

Not a single problem to date - knock on wood. We are pretty hard on our cars but take good care of them.

Best,

Mike H.

I have about 1k miles on my 05 and no problems so far (fingers crossed) but it is still early yet.
