Any opinions on Mitsu HD DLP Tvs? I've been in the market - thought I had finally made up my mind and was going to go DLP. Checked out several manufacturers - nothing really stood out to me. But then I noticed - most do NOT include a screen shield. Well - the screen shield on my 60" Hitachi (non-HD 4:3) has save my butt several times (neighbor's kids, nieces, nephews, etc). It looks like the Hitachis and Mitsus have them std. Comparing them - I like the Mitsubishi a bit better.
Thoughts? Anyone have expieriences w/Mitsu DLP TV? |

| I heard a commercial for DLP today. Still not exactly sure what it is, but at the end they tell you it's from Texas Instruments. Boy they make some fine calculators but if you ever had a TI-99-4A computer you would raise an eyebrow or two. |

| DLP is a TI technology. We have the Mits on display and it looks great. I was not a fan of DLP in the past, but the current generation is definitely better. |

You really need to do some research on the DLP chips. There are many different versions of DLP with different resolutions. Find out what chip is in the set you are considering. The best currently available for RPTV is the HD2+, with 1280X720 resolution, but they are coming out with a new version soon that is supposed to be better. You may want to wait a little while if you do not need a TV soon.

| I have a 46" Samsung DLP and love it. Better than plasma and half the cost. Research on AVS forum. |

| You could wait for quite a long time if you are always waiting for the next "hot" new chip. I would equate it with holding off on a new computer until the fastest processor ever is available. Obviously they keep getting faster, so the wait would be quite a while when what is available now may be perfect for your applications. If the set you are looking at meets your expectations, I say go with it. |

| My issue with Mitsu - SERVICE! Subpar is saying a lot for them. I spent a YEAR trying to get my money back for a simple defective DVD player. Then the big screen went and it was more problems. All warranty stuff, all big problems. NEVER AGAIN! No more three diamonds tuna in this house! |

I have a Samsung 43 inch DLP, the picture is fantastic. You should consider that Mitsu is having financial problems big time, they are a major Japanese congolomerate that dabbles in all sorts of stuff, and is the only Japanese company that manufactures electronics and automobiles. They don't seem to be doing well lately with either product.
If you want to go with DLP, try Samsung, Toshiba, or Panasonic. Three good companies with historically good records of customer service. AVS Forum will give you all the answers....... |
