Hi Everybody... this is my first post and I just got my 04 MDX last Saturday SS/Quartz Touring for 800 below invoice and I absolutely love it, but one thing has been bugging me:
About half the people who have seen my car have said that it reminds them of a car that a soccer mom would drive... anybody else encounter this?? |

I had one office co-worker that called my MDX a minivan!!! Gee... the whole idea is we didn't want a minivan!! Nothing bad about this co-worker anyways - he just needs to get his terminology correct!! He's a friend and neighbor too. And then I always call this MDX a truck! That's because it won the Truck of the Year thing twice - therefore it must be a truck or all those editors are wrong! Your friends call yours a car? (Pretty kind of them!)
Welcome to the MDX world, and congratulations on your new MDX. Pictures?!! |

I've heard several auto delaers refer to the RX330 Lexus as a "soccer mom's car" and I have to admit....as many as 8 of 10 that I see are driven by women.
As for MDX sightings...my sense is about half and half men/women. |

In defense of mini-vans, the 2005 Odyssey is a pleasure to drive. The suspension is tight and it corners with pleasure. They did a nice job with the dash display, big bright numbers, MID display. It's the same steering wheel from the RL, minus the telephone controls. The Navi and RES screens are huge, puts the MDX to shame. Test drive one and you will be pleasantly surprised. 2005 Ody Touring only needs bluetooth to be called an Acura.
But the 2005 MDX accelerates more smoothly, about what you would expect for what is possibly the last model year, versus first model year for Odyssey. |

Are you a soccer mom? And if so, who cares! If you are a soccer mom and drove a Ford Pinto wouldn't that be classifying your Pinto as a Soccer Mom Car?? They would be stating the obvious....F-them....they are envious of you MDX....
Similar when we bought our new construction house, "why are you buying such a big house, you are newly weds...buy a fixer upper….blah....blah..." Because I can afford to pay the $250K for a 3500 square foot home, and 4 years later is worth $650K!
People that are jealous/envious...call it what you want, make stupid comments to offset their inhibitions what they don’t want other to over achieve them or wish they could achieve what you have achieved in your life…. |

| keep in mind that the Aucra MDX was advertised as the "CEO of SUVs." and no, the MDX is not a "soccer mom's car." but, I do admit, there are alot of women MDX owners. |

The more I look at the MDX, the more I think it is a mini-van/soccer-mom vehicle. IMO, the short angled hood and rounded backend just screams minivan...
But, I don't really care, it's a good vehicle nonetheless. Just slap some 20's or 22's on it, and you can pull up to the club without the honeys asking where your kids and the soccerballs are. :D |

Almost my sentiments exactly. The MDX looks elegant, graceful, clean, and somewhat feminine. If one is not secure enough in their masculinity to drive an MDX or RX330 for that matter, maybe that person should look at buying an H2 or an Excursion. |

I bought the MDX because I loved the styling. I kept seeing it on the roads and said, "Why can't I have a vehicle like that?"
While waiting for the new Pilot to arrive I decided to test drive a 2002 MDX and that was all she wrote. It's been a love affair ever since.
Someone can come and tell me it looks like a squat toad that got got run over by a Hummer. Wouldn't matter to me. Love is blind! ;) |

| By the way - $800 below invoice hurts me!! I bought the base model a month ago and had to go 700 over invoice (there is a $1000 dealer cash deal now). I'm trying to get over it..... |

'Bout the same for me. As for H2s, 9 out of 10 that I see are driven by younger women, so they must be soccer-mom cars (or maybe even "girly cars"). |

What?? $700 over invoice for a 2004? I paid less than that for my 2005 two weeks ago.
btw MDX is not for mom here in LA. They usually drive something even bigger, like a mini-van or one of those super-sized Chevy SUV.

Can't stand the term "soccer mom." Demeans the sport IMO.
Any self respecting Mom wouldn't be seen at a soccer match.
Anyway, Moms can drive what they like and not care what others think. Moms usually make smart choices in wheels, and I commend you for driving an X. It's safe, reliable, roomy, and provides you with peace of mind that you and yours are safe while going to and from the battlefield, er, I mean soccer pitch. |

| Since first viewing this thread, I have been paying more attention to who's driving the MDX (never really paid much attention). In the area I work, it's not uncommon to see three or four on our relatively small parking lot at any given time. There almost seems to be as many MDX as GM SUVs. It seems the split is about 60/40 women to men. Thats okay, I'm secure in my purchase. I think Honda did a great job on designing a vehicle that crosses gender lines this well. I wonder if there was no Pilot if it would be closer to 50/50. |

A "Soccer Mom Car" is whatever vehicle is being driven by a mother taking her kids to soccer practise. Could be a Rolls Royce, Cadalic Escalade, Mercedes, Chevy pickup or ?????
Does it matter a hill of beans what people call the car you drive as long as you are satisfied with it? |

"Side Steps" junk up an otherwise nice clean lined vehicle. Also do not do think they help to get into vehicle. Actually they hurt access in some instances. Easy access was one of the main reasons I bought the MDX. My son is in a wheel chair and has a problem tranferring into the taller GM and larger foreign SUV's. |

| for my personal taste, chrome satin side steps are the nicest accessory you can add to an MDX. sure they are not needed, but earrings are also not needed, but men and women still wear them. |

The "soccer mom car" doesn't bug me. Why should it? The MDX is a great vehicle for soccer moms! They want a vehicle that is very safe, reliable, roomy for the kids and their stuff, and yes, a sense of style and having a nice ride.
Probably 70% of the MDX's I see around here are driven by women (SUV-crazed Seattle area). That includes our MDX, which is primarily driven by my wife. |

.
They also need a car that will haulass between appointments, since they are so time-deprived. Don't t underestimate the attraction of acceleration, speed, apex-cutting-cornering, anti-rollover, and serious binders, to a "soccer Mom". |

| Navigators, Expeditions and other big SUVs are often driven by women/soccer moms. Does that necessarily make them effeminate? Maybe if they were painted pink... |

Hmm, I guess the comment wouldn't bug me as I bought ours exclusively for my wife and child . . . They may not play soccer (yet), but the inference is the same. No matter, you bought the car to impress yourself, not others. I don't care what they call my cars.
