2001 MDX - 49600 miles - no extended warranty
I just took it in and am getting a new tranny put in. Lurching and clunking at slow speeds.
My question is - can I ask for a 2004 tranny?

| sure you can ask, but it probably won't fit in a 2001 anyway. |

| '01s and '02s have one transmission design; '03s and newer have another, and I understand they're not interchangeable. |

Well, I got my response. No they can't. Some mumbo jumbo about computers... I just don't feel like battling for 8 hours with Acura and still get the same answer.
They are putting in the same tranny they would have put in if the recall would have shown issues - supposedly a slightly improved version of the 2001 tranny......
Still love the X, but what a shame that acura can't build a decent tranny....

I think they are now.....isn't that why you tried to get an '04 :1pat: :D
You should probably be in Vegas this week! |

And the reports trickling in are that they are no more reliable anyway, so I'd not worry about it from that perspective...

It would be interesting to know if the 'replacements' are appearing to be more reliable. |

| What is the warranty on the replacement? Folks here are getting different quotes... |

| My service adviser told me that my "new" transmission has a 3/36 warranty from the time of its installation |

| My advisor told me 12 months / 12000 miles. I sure like the sounds of 3/36 hmmm |

I was also told 3year/36K (after the service advisor first blurted out "up to 100K miles" before he put me on hold and spoke with someone in the office).
My problem now is the mileage on my service records indicates the new tranny was installed at 38K but it took a month for it to come so the actual mileage at the time it was put in was 39K. They told me that until the service order is "closed", the mileage is recorded at the time of initial contact. Bunch of B.S. that I will get addressed this week. |

Sounds like someone has been cranking up the ol' smoke generator.
And blowing it out where the sun don't shine! :3: |

Well,
Got my new tranny, ran it for a week (200 miles) and it is back again getting another tranny. This time it would just totally slip in second gear.
The Yukon loaner is looking good all of a sudden....
Hardrock, can you confirm that you have 3/36 warranty on your new tranny? Do you have it in writing - I am still being told 12/12000

I was TOLD it was a 3/36K warranty but now plan to get it in writing tomorrow when I go back to the dealer (and get my mileage corrected in their files...).
Will post what I find out.
BTW - no problems noted with my new tranny after about 500 miles. |

The warranty is such
12/12000 for any warranty repair (or the length of the actual warranty left if greater than 12/12)
Any out of warranty part is 3/36000 since it is on your dime.
I am trading mine on a Sequoia pronto....
It has been a nice vehicle, but I have lost my confidence and don't want to pony up $1500 for an extended warranty. That is why I bought an Acura in the first place....
