Let's try to get some of you old timers out of bed.

I know that owners started getting below MSRP when the 03's came out but I was wondering if anyone who bought an 01 or 02 Brand new (and I might add, before September of 2002) got a deal below MSRP. . .

If memory serves me correctly there were very few. I recall a couple members getting $500 off because they were returning Acura customers. We paid MSRP:mad:

Below MSRP!!!! I seem to recall most folks were paying a premium above MSRP for the pleasure just to get one. The big discussions back then were who waited the shortest and who got away with only MSRP.

I agree

I waited 5 months, and that was common.

Full sticker in Jan 01. Most Bay Area dealers were charging $1k-$4k over or were forcing accessories at inflated prices (like wheel locks, mud guards and door edge guards for $800). There were only a few dealerships willing to sell @ sticker and the wait was 2-3 months minimum at those.

I actually got my 01 $1500 below MSRP. I am in the Military and told them I wanted the vehicle September 14th 2001 when I returned from training. As you all know September 11th came around, it was the end of the model year and the 02s were showing up, so they gave me $1500 off.

I got my '02 Tour/Nav in November '01 after waiting about 4 weeks from the date of order. Paid MSRP plus another $2,500 for the accessory package "required" by the dealer. On top of that, I purchased the gold package, chrome wheels, and every other extra and option I could buy at full dealer price (I was excited and didn't know about Tim yet). After tax, license, and fees - $51,034.

Would love to trade-up for an '05 but can't because no one will give me anything for all the extras :bonk:

Hardrock: You must have set a record for most $ paid (any year model) for your MDX! I paid MSRP for a 2002 touring model after haggling over what they wanted. This was in Sept., 2002 when the 2003's were not yet on the lots. The economics of supply/demand was being put into practice to the detriment of buyers.

I paid MSRP but got free wheel locks and burlwood shiftknob!

But then again, me and my buddy bought one MDX each at the time.

Hardrock???? $51K for an MDX? Holy crap, was the gold pimp package they put on solid gold? I think you would be hard pressed to even get an 05 up to $51k with all the options, and a full tank of gas. I sure hope they kissed you before they hosed you on the deal.

Paid MSRP with free wheel locks, about a 4 week wait.

I paid MSRP but got all the accessories in my sig for free except the BSM -which I bought from Tim & the WT mats which I tested for Tim. The dealer valued the free accessories at $1667, however I could have bought them from Tim in Oct 2001 for about $800. I figured I got $800 under MSRP - a very good deal at that time.

After waiting on a dealership's list for almost 9 months under the assumption of MSRP with no required accessories, they changed policy and decided to sell MDXs only with overpriced accessory packages (~$4,000 for accessories worth about $1,400). Started cold-calling other dealerships all over CA, found available MDX at a dealer nearby, and bought it within 2 days.

Paid MSRP in Sept. '01. Tried to negotiate for below MSRP but the dealer would not budge, and instead agreed to throw in a free cargo tray (I guess that's like getting about $100 below MSRP) and an Acura hat.

July '01, MSRP with a cargo cover thrown in. My dealer (Leith) had a policy that they would NEVER sell above MSRP -- therefore, if your vehicle came in and someone offered them $500 more for it, they wouldn't sell it out from under you. I believe that they still have that policy.

I paid MSRP after waiting 5 months (they kept telling me it was in and then it wasn't - selling to other buyers I think).

I got three things thrown in: wheel locks, mud flaps and the rear cargo mat I think. It was about $500 worth if I remember correctly.

Want to take the time to thank those who helped make this blessed event a reality:

Thanks to ACURAMDX.ORG and especially all the posters who have provided valuable information and invaluable humor to someone enduring "the wait". I've been poring over this site almost daily and it reinforces my faith in the Internet community.

Thanks (of course) to Tim at Hondacuraworld.com. Ordered my splash guards and fender flares earlier this week and they were waiting for me when I came home from the dealership. Spent my friday evening putting the stuff on and it was the most fun I've had without drinking beer in a long time.

Finally, thanks to Chris at Acura of Peabody for his honesty and professionalism (two words you don't often hear when speaking of car salesmen). I paid MSRP with NO forced options. I went to other dealers closer to home and heard the usual song and dance about being able to get my vehicle in 3 months if I would take their "luxury package" ($4000 in add-ons I didn't need). I couldn't bear to enter into an exchange of this type on principal alone. My dealer shot straight from the start, even when I jokingly offered a "bribe" to get bumped up the list, his reply was that it woudn't be fair to the others already waiting and it wouldn't reflect well on the dealership. Exactly.

We paid full MSRP in March '01 for a Mahogany '01 Touring w/ Navi; however ...

... we rec'd free wheel locks, free cargo net and cover, free VIP protection package (uninstalled - they gave us the packaged kit), free rear splash guards, free roof channel covers (we removed the rack), 2 free key chains, free scale model of the MDX, AND all factory recommended maintenance free for 2 yrs (24K miles). We also got the front windows tinted and custom-painted pin-stripping at cost.

As I recall we got one of the better deals available in early '01. :1:  Waited almost 3 months on the '01 and 1 month on the '04.

And the wheel locks, cargo stuff, and key chains we still have; on the '04. Part of the old '01 Mahogany lives on :2:
The model MDX is still on our desk; still have the roof channel covers (but not using them). :D

MSRP in 11/02 for my 03. I recall prices in some markets dropping below MSRP starting in the spring of 03.

I did receive RES for free. But that was in exchange for jerking around from my dealer in the weeks leading to delivery.
