Saw this when researching a recall on my Motorhome at the N.H.T.S.A. web site.

Those of us with the sloshing tank should be happy we don't have this one.

Any 2005 owners here that were involved with this recall?

Per the N.H.T.S.A website here is the recall:

Make : ACURA
Model : MDX Year : 2005
Manufacturer : AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 04V541000
Recall Date : NOV 17, 2004
Component: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 61

Summary:
ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, SOME FUEL TANKS WERE IMPROPERLY MANUFACTURED.

Consequence:
IN A CRASH, THE FUEL TANK COULD BE DAMAGED AND LEAK FUEL. FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.

Remedy:
DEALERS REPLACED THE FUEL TANK. ALL OWNERS WERE NOTIFIED BY TELEPHONE ON NOVEMBER 10, 2004.

Notes:
CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION’S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

Not good, but it only affects 61 units.

"All owners were notified by telephone on November 10, 2004"

Man- Honda must have been scared shipless, for them to call everybody by phone. I bet somebody's in trouble for that one.

:behead:

Must have been some interesting phone calls. Good news, bad news type?

"You know that sloshless improved tank that was totally redesigned for the the 2005 MDX.....

If they called and contacted all the effected owners that may have prevented them the bad publicity that normally is associated with recalls and press releases. Until I stumbled across this one I had not heard a thing about it.

Hmmmm.......sloshing or terrible burning? In retrospect, maybe we should be happy with a little noise.

Test drove one yesterday and heard sloshing even on a 1/2 tank. People with 2005 Pilots have also heard sloshing. I guess the redesign will probably be slosh free.

I just purchased a 2005 MDX and a week after driving, the cruise control stopped working and I hear a weird noise coming from under the car. I immediately brought the car to the dealer and make the general manger and the service manger drive in the car with me - just so they can hear the nose. The said it was the gas moving around in the tank. I could not believe it!!! We spent a lot of money on this car and I have to hear the gas moving under my seat. Is Acura looking into this or what?

Tank is high up in back. It's from the back you should hear any noise, not under your seat... :8:

Many of the slosh club members do not seem to mind the noise. I, however, can't come to terms with it given the $40000 I spent on this vehicle. I'm going to get a slosh free Hyundai next time for 1/2 the price.

That's a great idea. You'll never be able to hear the sloshes in a Hyundai.
You also won't be able to hear your back seat passengers target shooting with a .44 magnum.

The new Hyundai vehicles are surprisingly quiet... you probably could hear the people in the back seat.

That recall situation has been mentioned on the boards before. When the new models came out, a few posters were waiting unusually long times for their cars to be delivered--they were being held up to do the tank replacement. I believe someone refused the car after the tank was replaced. Personally, I'd rather have one built right from the factory the first time.
