As posted on another thread, I just had my transmission replaced. What was interesting is that on signing the repair order I received a sheet with a very detailed record of the 4-wheel alignment that was done as part of the repair. I questioned the Service Manager about this and was told that it had to be done when the tranny was replaced.
My question is; has anyone had this type of alignment done on their X as part of routine maintenance? I haven't had a chance to read through the service manual to see if it's a recommend procedure. |

It would be normal for the front to be realigned as front end components are removed/replaced as part of the procedure.
Having a full 4 wheel alignment is best to ensure everything is in spec. Any reputable shop doing a wheel alignment will provide data showing the actual offsets measured (electronically) as part of the alignment. Often showing before and after measurements against the required settings and tolerances.
The better shops will provide data even if the car is in full alignment. And often not charge if no adjustment is necessary.
Something that escapes many owners who just assume an alignment is always needed periodically and just fork over the money.
Normally, alignments should be done (checked) for major work involving steering/suspension components, after being involved in an accident, after knowingly hitting a curb or pothole unusually hard, etc., when uneven tire wear is detected, or car pulls to one side consistently, or tracks poorly (wanders, etc.). |

| I have had a four wheel alignment done as part of routine maintence work and it was also done when the transmission was replaced. Maintaining the alignment helps insure good tire life. Given some of the rough roads the vehicle gets driven over I had it done at the major service interval. |

| I also was given an alignment when my tranny was replaced under warranty at 40K. Problem now is that the X seems to pull to the right and just yesterday I had to add power-sterering fluid. May or not be related but I'm back to the dealer on Monday. |
