XM 1 year $60 renewal - Click HERE for Original Thread

Called and simply asked for the $60 dollar promotion.

First try they said no because I already had one promotion.

2nd try, no problem. As a bonus, she combined my Odyssey XM account with my MDX account and restarted my 3 month promotion.

So after my 3 months run out, my one year begins.

Required credit card. She said I would be billed when the 3 month promotion runs out. $60 for each car.

Pretty good deal.
mdefrances
Thanks, slocko. I called XM and got the $60 year rate for our 04 TL but couldn't get that deal for our 04 MDX cause I put in an XM Roady receiver (aftermarket). But they allowed me to keep the Roady on the books under the family plan @ $6.99 a month. They explained that the deal is for Honda and GM factory installed units. Compared to what I had been paying, I will realize a savings of $60 next year. I listen to XM exclusively in each of our cars. I have a mountainous work commute and the signal is always right on.
Siliconbug
XM radio says this promo is for pre-installed XM radio set (GM/HONDA/ACURA) only, and I get my next year service for $60. Unfortunately, when I asked them if I can pay $120 for 2 years, they said no....:(

Guys,

When you called, what information did they ask from you? VIN number perhaps? The reason I'm asking this is because I want to call them now but don't have the X with me.

Thanks.

Once again, I am appreciative of this board. I just called and they hooked me up for 1 year at the $60.00
This was my first time with XM, but in the week I have had it, it has been all I have listened to.

Nice feature that I sure won't do withiut in the future.

Thanks all!
ghabicht
I called XM radio and theY said I could only get the promo from the dealer....
I called back and got a different person, and she hooked me up with no hassle - $60 for 1 year beginning at the end of my 3 month trial.

(it's beyond me why the 1st person couldn't do that :3: )

I had to give her the promo code that I found on another thread - if you need it, it is : ZWINBACK MYP1

:2:

parallels my experience - first CSR would not make any attempt to "tack on this promo to the first90day free trial" provided by MDX being an '05 and new sign-up. Refused outright (wasn't ugly or anything...just following her policy as she knew it).

So thanks to this thread....I called back....and pursuaded the 2nd CSR to go ahead (she did not want to initially) enter the promo and see "if the computer" would accept the promo...and it did. She was surprised herself....and commented it may be due to the type of car, as she had attempted to "tack on" the 1yr promo to GM cars still in the free 90day trial period...and her computer would not allow it.

maybe Acura has cut a deal w/ XM ?

FWIW, she never did ask me for the promo code, but seemed immediately to be aware of it. Also, she asked where I had seen the promotion...told her a forum for cars.

YMMV

Thanks sigmachi96 for guiding me back to this thread.

I just called XM and said that I wanted to sign up for the $60 per year Acura promotion. I spoke with a CSR named Kia. She asked me if I had a promotion code, and I indicated that I did not, but I believed it was a promotion for new Acura/Honda/GM owners who have XM radio with their new car.

I also told her that I have two new 2005 Acuras (TL and MDX) and I wanted it for both cars and wanted to pay for three years upfront. She said that she would have to do some investigation and call me back. She called me back in about 20 minutes and said that I was all set and that I would be charged $120 annually (2 cars) for three years. She indicated that she noted my account to that effect.

Very Cool! :D
infowarrior
Just did the 60/yr thing, but the CSR had no knowledge of extending the 60/yr deal past the 1-year "special."

I may call back in a week or so and try to finagle something or other, and will report back as I can.

I asked about getting a $60/year deal for more than one year and they declined. I'll try them again after my 3 month free trial ends.

Finally got a chance to call XM, and got the deal on my first try. BTW, they asked for the promo code. Tried to extend the deal for another year but no luck. In any case, pretty good deal. Thanks.
s2k000L
hey, just tried to use the promotion on our 2005 steel blue. well, looks like i got an educated CSR, as he told me that the $60/yr deal was only good on vehicles passed their free 3 month evaluation.

so, i have to call back in 3 months to see if their offer is still good. on the flip side, i went out and bought a new delphi roady 2 for the 2004 mdx, and just finished installing it. that one is going on the family share plan.

this board rocks with all the neat stuff!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We got an 05 MDX and 05 RL about the same time in Nov but the MDX has a 3 month trial period for the XM service. I received a letter regarding renewing even though we have 2 more months to go. I found some info in another forum about this $60 promotional special that some TL members got. After several attempts to find someone who knew about this special I was able to renew the MDX at that rate for one year..starting from the date my trial period would have ended. My credit card would be charged at that time.

I asked if I could do the same for the RL, even though it was 11 months from now, and the answer was..yes!

I told him I had other people with new Acura's who would want to do this also, and asked what the best way to get right to people there who know about this promotion. He said when you call the toll free number, ask to be transferred to the "tier 2" billing dept. There is a promotional code: ZWINBACKMYP1 also.

Many thanks to the people at the other TL forum for info on the promo and forewarning about calling until you connect with someone knowledgeable at XM.

BTW, I forgot to ask how long this promo is going to last.
cycler15
Is this only good for cars with XM built in? What about people with aftermarket XM radios?
peter97
I think this promo was for new cars only coming off the trial periods, but I do think it's worth a try to call them & appeal to their sense of fairness.
mjandrews
I tried to get a new activation at this rate this morning, and no luck. "This promo was for GM vehicles with factory-installed XM, and had to be extended by XM to someone who had already completed the 3-month trial". Boo.
peter97
The promo was for accounts already activated, and renewing after the trial period was up. Again, it worked for my MDX & RL 2 days ago, and a whole lot of TL's since about Sept 04. If the person you called up didn't know about the promo, I would hang up and call back till you got someone who did know. This was the advice given on the other forum.
Divergcm2
Just called XM and they gave me the run around for a few minutes. I gave them the code ZWINBACKMYP1 and she said OK.

60$ for 1 year after trial period, Less then 5 bucks per month, not bad..

Well, I talked to someone to actually knew what they were doing. I called and the person I talked to said the code was only good if a XM account rep called you personally and if you had a GM or Honda vehicle.

I guess I could call back and hope I get someone dumb on the line... we'll see if it's worth my time.
peter97
It's a shame the xm people can't get their act together. This is the TL thread I mentioned before..and as you can see, it's not for GM only, and it's still available.

My initial 3 months of free XM is almost up. A couple months ago some of you said you had received a deal from XM for $60 a year. Does anybody know if that deal is still being offered?
Jim03MDX
I've heard of people recently getting mixed results. Call the 800 number and ask for the "Retention Department" and tell them you want the $60/year promo. It's worth a try. Good luck!

Just got off the phone with XM.. Took about 1 minute for them to add the extra year for $60. ;)
diverman
kentrogers1234,

What did you tell the XM people to get the $60/yr deal? Do you just ask them for it?
kentrogers1234
diverman,

I went straight to tech support option and told them I was offered the $60 for 1 year deal. I figured the tech sales folks were much more knowledgeable about offers and I was right. No questions asked and my 1yr plus free 3mos subscription is good until June 2006 for only $60. (they'll send me the bill...no credit cards needed)

good luck:)

Is this offer still good?

I received my letter to subscribe 2 weeks ago and called for the promo. No problems $60 for 1 year.

Using ghabicht's supplied promo code made it even easier

ZWINBACK MYP1

Good Luck!

I just extended my subscription to 1 yr for $60. Best of all this offer starts only after the trial period ends!! Cool !! :yesyes:

Thanks to ghabicht for the code.

Thanks for the code. I just called and got 1 year for $60 starting after my free 3 months. Great deal.

XM radio is great.

Thanks.

I just called today and told the sales person that I heard from the Acura Dealership that XM was offering a 1 year sub for $60.00 (based off other comments from above). She said normally the dealership should call me when my trial period runs out, but she put in the offer for 1 year for $60.00 and her computer said it was OK. I had to charge the amount on my credit card. So, My subscription expires end of Feb 2006.

diverman
I also called XM today and got the $60 special. I told them my dealership said XM was offering it. The person at XM checked to see if I was eligible (not quite sure what the criteria is) and took care of it within a couple minutes. Easy!
blevins
I had to call three times before I got someone who "could" add this promo onto my account. They'll send me a bill when my trial runs out.

The "no" person said this promo was "only for radios with a service that had run out and only if they called". The second said my service had to run out then I could call.

Sure, looks like XMRadio doesn't tell everyone there the same thing..:( :( :(
RobCA
I just called the 800 number and asked for Technical Support. The guy verified that I was eligible for the promotion. In addition to the radio ID, he also wanted the Acura Dealership and Sales Reps name.

However, I currently have 3 other XM radios (1 for $9.99/month and the other 2 for $6.99/month - family plan). He said that this new radio will be $60/year and after the 1 year is up it will default to $9.99/month, rather than $6.99/month. Odd, because you would think it would just be added as an additional radio to my account. Maybe this guy did not know what he was talking about...???

Thanks for the info!

I just called the 800-831-5572 number and told them about the promo. The guys said only if I received any promotion offer through mail, I will get it otherwise it is regular price.

I just wrote XM.. I believe new and existing AFTERMARKET customers (on month to month subscriptions) can get reduced annual rates. $119 a year, (9.99/mo.) So you don't get hit with the hike to $12.95 in April.

Picked up my 05 yesterday. Called XM last night. Asked for "tier 2" group. Was told it didn't exist any longer. Told the agent about the $60/1 year "ZWINBACKMYP1" offer. Was asked to hold for a minute. Got my free 3 months, plus the $60/1 year deal, no questions.

She couldn't do the deal for my wife's 04TL because the 3 month trial period was over. I was told I'd have to open a new account for the MDX, which I did. So, it seems like it's only available to new subscribers during the 3 month trial period.

Hope this helps.

I just did the $60/year renewal as well. Had my service shut off and on the first try called (800) 874-9786 and got shut down cold. Then called (800) 929-2100 and got the promo with no problems. Gave them the promo code (ZWINBACKMYP1), they asked what kind of car, took my cc number and within 5 minutes, XM was reactivated. BAM.

just did the 60/year promo, it only took 2 months to get it done. I called today and it was done on the first try. I think they are getting lots of calls because everyone is signing up before the rate hike april 2. I signed up for 6 years for a total of 559.99. My next bill is march 2011.

Hay guys. Just need help. I called XM and I basically repeated what I was advised by our pals here. I mentioned that I was responding to a promotion and he asked me if I did receive as a gift certificate on this promotion to which I replied yes. He asked me my home telephone number and he could not find my account from that. Then he asked me my radio id and I gave. He was setting up but I got scared if he will find that I am cheating. I disconnected

My 3 months trial period is getting over. So far I have received 3 renewal notice of 120 dollar per year from XM. I was scared if he would catch my trick.

What you guys are saying? Was it going Ok?

Please advise

After waiting on hold for more than 15 minutes I got someone on the line that seemed to know what I was talking about when I gave him the code. He had to "...ask the supervisor" and it was done in a few seconds.
60 bucks. Not a bad deal considering the price is going up in April.

Existing self-install XMers should have recieved their discount option from 1 up to 5 years prepaid. They can be cancelled anytime, and will be refunded based on proration.
This is different than the letter customer service sent me saying you can't get less than 2 years.
BostonX
All I did was mention the "winback" code I read about on this site. Their records indicated that I was a new car buyer. I mentioned that my dealer told me about the promotion and that was all it took. I got one year for the $60 rate and didn't bother asking for more, I felt lucky and didn't want to get greedy!
havefun0
wow,, cool.. I just got it for $60 for 1 year. After that it's 9.99. pm. anyone interested in subscribing, better do it before 2nd april. the rates are changing from 9.99 pm to 12.99 pm.

So if you use the promotion for 1 year and then extend before your expiry of service, you would still pay 9.99 (even after the rate change) as the rate when you subscribed was 9.99. .....

They are getting smarter. Called the 1-800-967-2346 number asked for the ZWINBACK promotion. She said I wasn't eligible but would see what they could do. After a couple of minutes on hold, she came back on the line and said she was able to set it up for $60.00. I tried to add some more years at the current rate and she said she couldn't do that. Couldn't set up multiple discounts. She said renewals would be at the applicable rate at the time of the renewal. Guess I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
Halby
I just called and got the $60 one year renewal running from the end of my 3-month trial period. Based on some recent posts from the TL forum link on the first page of this thread, I called 800-682-4114 rather than 1-800-XM-Radio. I got through almost immediately. I tried to get the deal this morning, but the rep told me that I needed to have an e-mail from XM to be eligible. Nonsense. When I called back this afternoon, no problem. Now all I have to do is piggyback the account for the Skyfi2 in my Accord to the MDX's account to get the $6.99 per month family plan rate. That will make it $11.99 per month for XM in two cars and every radio in my house (thanks to the FM modulator in the Skyfi2).

Thanks to the Board for the Info, I was not inclined to pay the 9.99 or 12.99, but 5 Dollars I can swing for the XM.

Thanks guys! I just renewed my service for $60 for a year. I tried for more, but she denied it.

Do you guys have a delay in program when you start up the car or the xm radio? I'm experiencing some delay before the receiver can pick up the signal. Is that normal?

Worked here as well for my '05 X. I was told ZWINBACK-MYP (Multi Year Plan) is a dealership promotion code where the dealserhips actually front the difference in the annual rate. Since they offered up the "MYP" piece, I also asked to purchase for multiple years, but was told I couldn't do it under the current promotion (although they told me perhaps I could go to the dealer when my annual subscription is ending to see if I can get another code).

At any rate, would just like to say thanks! This thread (and forum overall) has proven to be a great help and wealth of information..

do not wait. the rates are gonna change from 2nd april onwards. My 3 months promotion expires in May - butI still got the deal. if you get it this month, you would renew a year later for only 9.99 pm otherwise it would be 12.99 pm. plus the promotion - i think is valid only till 2nd april. try again - and speak to a different operator and check it out.

i was told the same thing about about waiting for the trial period to expire. However, i was able to cancel my trial period (1.5 months remaining) and sign up for the promo deal. I installed a new Delphi XM MyFi in my 04 MDX about three weeks ago and called to activate for the first time and told them I had this code: ZWINBACKMYP1 for $60 for the first year and then wanted 2 years at the reduced rate of $9/month before the rates were to increase today(4/1/05). They said OK and I saved about $192.

First Year = $60 $156
2nd Year = $108 $156
3rd Year = $108 $156
Total = $276 $468 Saved $192

I did all this at one time for the first time I ever signed up on a car that did not have the XM Radio built in.

I love the news, talk radio, and comedy channels. I think it has music somewhere too.
td284
I just got the car, and called for the $60 deal. I had to cancel the promo period and get the 12 months starting now, but still a good savings. They wouldn't do more than 1 year, and I doubt I will be able to renew next year for $60. Does anyone know that for sure?

Love the reception and choice, but its a lot like cable--lots and lots of channels, but only a few I'll listen to all the time. And too bad the club music is so lame. I ilke good lounge, and theirs sucks. I wonder if Sirius is any better?

Call them now. The new $77/month deal might not be available in 3 months. It was $60/month for quite a long time.
carguy1234
I'm assuming these prices are for renewals, not new subscriptions, right? The XM website doesn't mention anything cheaper than $9.99 a month for a long term contract.

I'm still in my three month trial period, and am wondering what the best option is for signing up. I'm worried that if I sign on long term for $9.99, then I'll miss out on any cheap renewal opportunities.

What is the best bet for getting signed up with XM for a new subscriber? Thanks.

IMHO: Sign up for the $77 1 year deal.

I signed up for a 3 year deal with my TL for about $7/month- slightly more, but nevertheless I'm paying more for my TL than for what my MDX will cost in the long run.

So this rate is only good for a renewal then? I can't seem to get this rate for a new subscription (just got a 2005 MDX a month and a half ago). Seems the best I can get is $9.99 a month.

I called today and after being transferred twice and 20 minutes on hold, finally got the answer that they couldn't give me the $77 promotion until five months after my radio was activated (i.e. two months after my free subscription expires). He said he could put it in the computer, but that it would automatically be backed out later as invalid.

Has anyone had their service "backed out" b/c it was put in before the five month period? Or is this just bs...

They did offer me the $9.99 per month, which isn't bad, but it isn't great either.

When I called, I simply gave the promo code and given the $77 deal with no questions asked. I purchased my MDX 2 months ago. Good luck...

Called 800-929-2100 and was passed to a supervisor who wanted the radio ID number, but looked me up by phone number when I couldn't find it immediately. Gave her the zwinbackmyp1 promo code and I was in at 77 plus tax = 82.20 one time charge to credit card. Couldn't go more than a year, tho. Probably will be lower by then, anyway. 90 day period would have expired in two more weeks. Thanks for this website; I've learned a lot about the marque here, and I'd say it was the primary source of our interest in the MDX...might have stayed in Jeep if the dealer hadn't screwed us around and we hadn't gone to the net for other ideas.

I just had a similar experience. I called, and was transferred through two people, and nobody would let me sign on for the $77 promotion. They said I can't have two promotions at the same time (3 months free, and $77/year). I tried to explain that a lot of others are doing this, but neither person would budge and said to call back after my 3 months free expires.

So you must have to get lucky and connect with the right sales person???

They did say the $77/year was real, so they do know about that. That just woundn't give it to me in my situation.

I just called today - 7-22. Didn't even give them the code. They asked for the radio ID - gave it to them. They acknowledged I was still in month 1 of my trial and then told them I had a code and wanted to use that but couldn't figure out how. He asked what the code was for - told him it was for $77 per year. Asked me how I got that - told him I wasn't sure - 'My wife must have found it as she drives the car....'. He put me on hold for about 2 minutes - came back on and let me do it. They would not allow me to do it for more than 1 year though. I tried mutiple times. For what it's worth. Great forum and this definately saved me some $$. Good luck.

Jeff.
