Stupid question.... If I get the hidden Hitch does it come with all the wiring stuff to hookup your lights on the trailer that you are towing or is that extra?
Also how hard is it to install the wires for the hitch? and is there any part of the rear bumper that would have to be removed?

Thanks,

Mike

Just baught the MDX and dont want to screw it up

I have a hidden hitch on my 02 and it took me less than 60 minutes to install. You can download complete OEM instructions here: https://hondacuraworld.hostasaurus....structions/mdx/ to get all the details you need on the wiring. I did not install the wiring since I only use the hitch for a bike rack. You can also try doing a search, as there are some excellent detailed instructions posted by fellow members. Good Luck!

Check prior threads on hitches.

There I posted that I got my hitch from UHaul - no shipping charges. The hitch is made by Hidden hitch.

Got the wiring harness from etrailer.com.

Just a hint: before installing the hitch, soak with liquid wrench or some similar product the bolts that are to be removed.

Time to install hitch: 30 to 45 minutes.

Time to install harness: 15 to 30 minutes,

JeffK -

Do you know what the model # is for the uhaul hitch. They have a few listed on their website and I want to make sure I get the right one.

I went to the local UHaul store and ordered.

The advantage of doing that way, is that there is no shipping charges.

I bought the one with the 1 1/2" receptacle rather than the 2". They were both rated at 3,500 lbs.

The 1 1/2" was about $50 cheaper. I am a biker and have a roof rack and really prefer to put my bike inside.

The 2" will take a bike rack, but I do not like to put my Trek carbon fiber back on the back of MDX - it gets dirty and someone can back into it.

As I posted installation was less than 30 minutes.

Finally, before you remove the existing bolts soak them with penetrating oil.

Good Luck!

You kind of answered your own question.

No, you do not need them if you are only using it for a bike rack. I confirmed this with my dealers service dept. to be sure I wouldn't have any issues down the road with the warranty. You may wish to do the same.

Yes, if you intend to haul anything heavier you will need to install the coolers. I suggest you do a search on this subject. There are threads out there on the installation process as well as some non-Acura suggested solutions.

Review my prior post where I posted that my 165 HP Subaru Outback was able to pull both my boat (2,500 lbs) and UHaul trailer without oil cooler.

I felt that if my Subaru could do this without an oil cooler, why not my 3.5 liter 260 HP MDX?

So far I have been trailering my boat and have taken a 6X10 closed UHaul to Washington, DC and back with my MDX, without oil cooler and without any adverse effects.

There are many, many posts on this subject. Clearly, putting in an oil cooler will not hurt. I just question whether it is necessary.

I also believe in changing the oil every 7,500 miles others change it more frequently. Does it do any harm? Of course not. Is it necessary? You have to decide!

Just my $.02.
