I received a new Toshiba RD-XS52 DVR/DVD recorder for Christmas. As I read through the overwhelming information and capabilities I'm beginning to think this thing is pretty cool. It is not Tivo based (I didn't want Tivo) but basically the same type of thing. Record to the 160GB hard drive, pause live TV, watch as many replays of football as I want, make a DVD for the kids to watch on their DVD players, etc.
I'm beginning to see why so many people that have them can't live without them. The video quality is excellent but just the convenience of not missing ANYTHING when someone rings the doorbell, or the phone rings, or the kids want something, or......
I've read where Mitsubishi is actually putting a hard drive as a standard built-in feature in one of their TVs. That maybe the wave of the future for higher end TVs.
