Hello all
Our 2002 MDX has 46K miles on it - and we are about to replace the original tires. We never go off-road, so I'm thinking of replacing with a set of Michelin MXV4+ tires.
Any thoughts?
Also - I see that there are two varieties of MXV4+ tires - with Service Descriptions of 104H and 103H. Should I care? Or just buy the less expensive (103H) set?
TIA

Goodyear Forteras...haha..I was the first to say it!!! :D
They appear good and are not owned by a French company..if that's important to you.....beyond that:
you have lots of choices. Lots of posts on here about different experiences with tires. You are about to get barraged with more info than you ever expected. |

| No matter where I end up buying tires, I always check www.tirerack.com and do a comparison between different tires. I use them as a resource to do my homework on choosing the best tire for all of my cars over the years and their info has never let me down. |

I'm with Dale B..
The Goodyear Fortera has been an excellent tire for me on 3 different SUV's
Awesome handling in all weather conditions, very quiet and seems to help in braking as well.
I have now had the Forteras on my X (replaced with Michelin Cross Turds) and on my Chevy TrailBlazer and now my Olds Bravada as well. On all 3 SUV's the Forteras have handled better, quieter and are great in all weather conditions including rather deep snow.
BTW...Goodyear company owned stores will price match Tire Rack or any other competitor
Give 'em a try!! |

......TRUST ME, no need to ask for any more advice from anybody!!....When I owned my MDX, I was never really impressed with the handling or ride, and it never for a moment dawned on me that it might be those HORRENDOUS, CRAPPY CROSS-TERRAINS it wore. Not that the ride/handling was that bad, but it was never "AMAZING" as all those reviews and posters said it was. The ride I thought was a little on the "harsh" side for a so-called car-based SUV and the handling was nothing to write home about.
In any case, recently a friend who also owns an MDX (same year 2003 as mine was) said it was time to replace his tires, and I had been doing some reading in consumer reports about various tires, and suggested to him that he put on MICHELIN ENERGY MXV4 PLUS tires as he practically never drove the MDX in areas of heavy snow, and they were available in the size 235/65-17 for the MDX......besides, I was totally impressed with the ride and handling of the loaner RX330 I had got from Longo Lexus (which had ENERGY MXV4 S8s on it) a few days before that.
When I drove his MDX with the Energy Plus tires on it, I was dumbstruck. The improvement in BOTH ride and handling was like DAY AND NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
......So BOTTOM LINE IS.....for all of you guys that live in an area that doesn't get heavy amounts of snow (like Southern California)....you don't need AWD or those crappy Cross Terrain tires  .....Do yourselves a VERY VERY BIG favor and DUMP those Cross Terrain tires and get yourselves a set of Energy MXV4 Plus tires!!!....They will work wonders for the ride and handling of your MDX!!!!!!
......And the real irony is, that you don't lose much in the form of snow traction, either. According to Consumer Reports, the Energys are rated just A NOTCH below the Cross Terrains in this category. In every other category they leave the Cross Terrains in the dust......and from my personal experience in the real world I found this to be right on the money!! |

Vic,
The Goodyear Forteras give you that "luxury" ride and they handle great. Much better handling in rain, snow and dry pavement as well.
The Forteras are the best of both worlds!! |

I keep 'jabbing' you, Echo...but the Forteras are on my short list when the time comes.
Are you sure you are not getting a kickback from GY? :D |

Dale,
If I had a dollar for every Fortera that I recommended....
Happy New Year! |

| I just ordered a set at $89 a tire at tire rack. I previously called Michelin to complain about the poor wear on my CT (40K and already at the wear bars and very nosiey) and they offered me 25% off my next purchase. |

PBK...
Congrats...you just turned your fine SUV into a car!
Michelin has to make concessions for their Cross Turds as they are junk as I have said many times before.
I personally would not put car tires on my SUV... |

40,000 miles on a set of tires? Most would be happy with that kind of mileage on a set of tires.:4: |

| But it never hurts to complain to the manufacturer, if you do it the right way. |
