How do we install gorhino hitchsteps (the smaller one called "rhinosteps") without having to spend $600 on the trailer hitch package on a 2005 MDX? Is this even an option ? What additional things do I need to get the gorhino hitchsteps installed ? After hearing about all the rear accidents, I am just looking for some extra/additional protection.
Thanks for your help. |

Just buy the cheapest trailer hitch you can find with a 2" receiver. The only way they mount is in a trailer hitch. I have a few minor dings, etc. around my MDX but not a scratch on the Go Rhino hitch step.
Maybe it's a deterrent?

The shorter hitch step should be no problem. I had to find metal caps for the ends for the longer one. The stock Go Rhino caps are plastic and will melt under exhaust heat. With the 2004/5 MDXs the caps at both ends may melt.
Other than that, I think they are very useful accessory. |

Put Hitchstep on my 2004 Touring ...
Looked pretty cool and works nicely ... BUT on a long trip (200 miles) last week .... the RIGHT side (not left) the black plastic cap MELTED into oblivion .... I'll attach a pic later tomorrow - (pretty dramatic)
Did anyone else have this prob with a 2004 or 2005 MDX? (the curve of the hitchstep seems to place the endcap pretty close to the dual exhaust .....)
Personally - I'd recommend thinking about one of the shorter steps for a 2004 or 2005 MDX. I'm going to ask Go-Rhino for a new cap and try one more time ... If melts again might cut a couple inches off each end . ........
