I drove a navi Accord and I noticed that while the navi system was talking, music was still playing through the rear speakers.
-
Does anyone know whether this is possible in the MDX?
-
Thanks

No, on my 04 MDX the voice turns off the music entirely, when speaking. It was a nice novelty at first but now I hate it, and I shut it off, as it interrupts the music or more in particular, in the middle of the news or a talk radio program. The only problem is that you have to keep an eye on the screen for directions. I use the split screen set-up.

Interesting, on my 02 the front left speaker( driver side ) goes out while navi voice comes on the rest of them still output music.

With my 2001 Acura CL Type S, the speakers would just go low and you would hear a ping prompt sound like on airplanes when you call for a flight attendant, then the voice of the lady would announce directions, but the music would still play in the background. I liked that feature as opposed to the 04 & 05 feature ! Give it back Acura ! :(

My front speakers cut out the music for the NAVI while the rear speakers keep playing the music

At least on my 05, the rear speakers keep playing the music. I wonder if its a setting issue?

......the 2005 model's Navigation system is COMPLETELY different from the the 2003 and 2004 model!!! (just as the '03 was completely different from the '01 and '02s) .....While it might appear to be just a small "enhancement" to the lay person, it's not. The new '05 Nav system has a FASTER PROCESSOR, DIFFERENT (improved) OPERATING FIRMWARE as well as IMPROVED SOFTWARE. (Think of it as the EXACT same version as in the new '05 Acura RL, with the exception of XM NAV TRAFFIC)

The only Honda products to have this LATEST generation Nav system are the '05 RL, '05 MDX and '05 Odyssey minivan

.....the '05 TL , '05 TSX and '05 Accord continue on with the older system.

The only product to continue with the now obsolete 1st generation DVD Nav System, is the '05 Honda Pilot  . For those people, for whom the Nav system is a VERY IMPORTANT part of the purchase decision, would be well advised to stay away from the Pilot for now!!

Vic, sounds like you know a lot about the GPS in Honda's cars. Since you are in Torrance, are you related to Alpine somehow? I've been telling people the same information when they try to use a 2005 navi DVD on 2004. My question is do you know if there is a way to add the XM Nav Traffic receiver (of course is someone acutaaly sell it) to the 2005 MDX Navi system?

I beg to differ - my '05 MDX w/nav does not read the full name of the street to turn into. The '05 RL I believe does this. I'm sure the pronunciation engine is built in, as the MDX's nav does read the street name as a confirmation for destination entries - but for some reason Acura did not enable it for routing. It does, however read highway and route numbers though.

I have no doubt that it is much improved over prior versions though, thanks to the IBM Viavoice colloboration in developing it.
