I'm trying to decide. Any opinions on them, Pros and Cons etc.
Thanks |

Deflector sents air down the glass to keep it clear. Only available in black unless you paint it.
Spoiler is available in body colors. The shape makes it pointy at the top rear. Makes the rear glass messy in the rain.
Some people like one over the other (either for look or for utility). So, it's really a personal choice.
(I went with the spoiler. Easy to install.) |

| Hey fellow KONO, with an NBP the choice between painted or unpainted is a non-issue, IMO. To me it came down to how it looks and I got the spoiler. |

Thanks for the input.
I've been reading past posts on the subject, which is making the decision more difficult. I was leaning toward the Spoiler, but after reading how it makes the back dirty, I'm leaning toward the deflector.
Does the Spoiler make the back that dirty? And does the deflector clean the window that much? |

Nitro,
The tailgate deflector came out with the original MDX in 2001. The tailgate spoiler was introduced with the 2004 production year. Of the two, I like the tailgate deflector. It helps keep the rear window clean at freeway speeds. |

| Spoiler they both get the back dirty, the spoiler look better since they come in OEM color. |

That's right huh?!! I find myself using the rear wiper more often these days (just installed the spoiler very recently). Then I got to check out if the nozzle is streaming/dripping or spraying water which was a different thread here.
Anyways, even some new minivans already have spoilers/deflectors built right into the body/metal. So, I gotta get a big spoiler for this MDX!!
Actually what I like to know or see (pictures) is if anyone has fitted an aftermarket spoiler or deflector on an MDX (non-replicas and not the photoshopped one:)) |

| So what if the rear window gets a bit irty; the whole truck gets dirty too. The spoiler really makes the X look more streamlined...............IMO: |

| SMG, where'd ya get them bars on the front, and back lights? They look cool. |

Nitro, we both may have same problem: AAS! (Accessories Acquisition Syndrome) I wonder if I should start a tread on it...

I think you may have just come up with a new oxymoron, "Streamlined SUV.";) |

| I had a deflector on my "03 MDX and I have a spoiler on my '04 MDX. IMO the spoiler looks a lot better, neither one serves a useful purpose. |

| Hey.. I just noticed this... smg1062's MDX in the picture above has 4 spoilers/deflectors!!:) |

What about that downforce? Flat out down the Mulsane straight in your MDX, tach over 7,000, big tailwind, doing maybe 175? That's gotta count for something. |

I think the spoiler looks nice.

So how difficult is it to install the Spoiler? I know I have to drill holes, but is it easy to do?
My dealer wants $98 to install it. Just wondering if I should do it myself, or pay someone else.
Thanks |

I would recommend doing it yourself. I installed the deflector on the MDX and a spoiler on the TL. No way I would pay $100 to have someone do this. YMMV.
Just take your time and use a sharp drill bit. |

I'll do it myself then.
BTW, what size drill and how many holes?
Also, where exactly does the paint need to be touched up? Does the paint come with the Spoiler, or do I need to get it from the dealer?
Thanks |

| I think I'm going with the Spoiler, unless someone says something to change my mind. I wish there were only one option. The decision making process would be much easier. |

Nitro,
Here's a link to an install:
http://www.acuramdx.org/forums/show...spoiler+install
I received touch up paint when I took delivery of my car. You will need to buy some since the spoiler will not have any.
You will need to touch up the holes after you drill them. Good luck with the install. |

The Acura factory installation instructions is available at one of the many websites that sells this spoiler (handa-accessories.com - find the spoiler and then click on their Instructions link). The link that Phin gave above is super too!
Drill sizes are 3, 6, 8 and 10 mm. It's pretty easy to do if you're mechanically inclined. Just don't let your spouse see you while at it. Mine peeked into the garage and gave me the you're-drilling-a-hole-into-the-new-car?? kind of comment, and then I said "No, it's 6 holes!!" and she fled away. She probably didn't want to see what kind of damage I can do!!
But it's not easy to find those metric drill bits here. Just use the equivalent type and it really does not need to be the exact because the 4 holes at the 2 sides are going to be oversized if you use what they say. Just measure the bolt diameter and and some clearance for touch-up paint. On the other hand, the 10 mm (2 places) at the top-middle has to be slightly larger than 10 mm for sure, unlike what their instruction said. This is because the special nut won't fit in a 10 mm hole after painting/touch-up. Just use a tapered reamer and size it, add touch-up paint, and etc...
The packaging box is really long/huge. There may be a possibility this packaging/box will be messed up if it comes to you by UPS/FedEx (actually depends more on luck when it comes to shipping). Anyways, I bought mine locally as the Niello Acura dealer here matched the $298 internet price (just have to pay sales tax but that's ok). |

EASY!!! Once you get past the fear of drilling holes it is simple. Just take you time touch up the paint and make sure it dries apply two coats on the top and underside of the outer holes. Here is my 04 spoiler install on my 02 MDX. http://www.acuramdx.org/forums/show...spoiler+install |

Yes, it does look like 4 spoilers in my roof...............I like the symmetry of the rook rack and spoiler.
NITRO: The grill guards are from a company called MANIK (attached is a front view). I have since added a 2nd set of fog lights and HIDs...pics to follow soon.
'Streamlined SUV'...............yes its oxymoronic, but so am I. However, if that slogan goes somewhere, I get the copyright credit (tongue in cheek)......................... |

Don't the grill guards affect your lights? |
|
|

| The lights do reflect off the guards ever so slightly, but so not affect the road illumination........... |
