Hello,
Does the DVD (RES) player play mp3 format disc? Does the audio output of RES play only on the headphones or can be selected to the Bose audio 8 speaker system?
I want to see if it is worth to have an original DVD entertainment system or get an aftermarket unit when the original is listed for ~ $1.5k. What kind of integration or features perphaps would be missing on aftermarket unit?

I would definitely go for the factory RES because it integrates really well with the main audio system. You can play back the RES sound through the main speakers or the headphones, in the later case the main system can play a different source(radio, CD...) for the people that are not watching the DVD. The whole AV RES system is very well thought out, it has many advantages over an after-market system. When the rear occupants are not watching DVD they can listen to CD or radio through the headphones. It's like having two systems together.
If you do decide to install an after-market system, make sure it is connected to the main system. Many systems use a FM transmitter so the sound is played back through the main system by using an unused FM frequency. In that case, you are only getting radio quality sound rather than DVD quality sound. |
