I bought one of the first 2001 MDX's sold in California. Last December, the car (w/66,000miles) was brought to the dealer with some
concerns about the transmission not downshifting on it's own on steep hills. The car was brought to the dealer because We were going to go to Utah on a ski trip and wanted to get every thing in order before we left. We were told that the car was safe to drive but when we got back, bring it in to have a new trans. put in. When we got back the service writer said that the service head at Acura said it would not be necessary some adjustment was made and the problem seemed to be better. A year later, my wife and son were driving back from school when the transmission locked up completely while the car was traveling at approx 50mph. The front wheels locked up and the car skidded to a stop. The car had to be put on a flat bed to get to the dealer. THe transmission was at that time replaced at no charge. The dealer even replaced the front wheels because of a huge flat spot on the tires as a result of the skid. Scarry for my wife and son, but she still wants a new MDX now that this one has 90K miles on it.
I have never heard of a transmission completely locking the wheels up like this. We never got a really good explanation from the dealer. If anyone has any thing to say about this, please comment. |
