I had a very similar incident. Our MDX had 89,000 miles on it when my wife and son were in the car coming home from school when the transmission made a terrible noise and completely locked up. The car skidded to a stop with the transmission completely locked up. THe tow truck driver could not get the car out of gear to load it on his tow truck so he dragged it up on his flat bed. The tranny jets were installed many miles earlier.
The car was towed to "Irvine Acura" The people at this dealer did really take care of the problem as best they could. The transmission and all 4 tires were replaced. we told them we had an extended warrantee but They had no concerns about this warrante. I got the feeling that Acura took care of it automatically. It took 10 days to get our car back. We were provided with a brand new Acura TSX for the time ours was in the shop. If the failure hadn't nearly caused her to crash the car, I'd have no problem buying another Acura after the way we were treated. It was a very painless experience. The "Near Death" experience however should have been avoided by Acura, they should have recalled the car and replaced the transmission before this problem ever happened. I replaced it with a Porsche Cayenne S. The Cayenne doesn't seat as many kids but it's really a gas to drive and has twice the tow rating. |
