How would you compare the Onkyo TXSR702B to the Harman Kardon AVR430? I've been seeing this receiver on clearance (04 model) for $399 and seen advertised well above that. I seen this price a couple of times. I'm hoping one more and I may likely pick it up. If not, the search continues. Initially my budget on my receiver was more but I'm looking for a great deal and spend more on the speakers.

Opinions?

HK has come out with some interesting receivers. Personally, I would probably still put an Onkyo a bit above it for solid value and good performance.

I know Onkyo puts out some good receivers as well as Denon, Yamaha- I'm talking about receivers in my general price range. But the HK gets some extra points for style. And the reviews, I've read have been pretty good. Feature wise it has what I want plus more. I wish I could do more side by side sound comparisons. Anybody do such a comparison?

I don't know what your budget is, or what display device you are using, but one thing I have seen with some of our clients is that they are using several HD devices on component out, as well as progressive scan dvd players and even game systems with a component cable. Many receivers only have one or two component inputs, which becomes a limiting factor. If you have an HD display, you may want to look into a receiver with more component inputs. The other thing that is a nice feature is a receiver that will upconvert composite or S-video to component. It will prevent the need to switch inputs on your display device when switching sources if you are using component out.

I don't know much about Yamaha (anymore) but I don't think you can find too many Denon down in that price range.
Evaluations can get quite subjective, probably better to pop in CC, Best, GoodGuys, etc. and do your own comparisons.
Pioneer brings some nice sounding receivers to the table too.
If you want more expert advice with very little snob factor, I would recommend LaserLand on DeAnza blvd. just north of 85 on the east side of the street (sigh...fond memories).

Yes, ideally I'd like 3 component video inputs on the receiver (for the gaming system, HD cable box, and progressive scan DVD player) and up conversion to component video so I don't have to switch video inputs and control everything through the receiver. Can I find this on a receiver less than $700. Am I asking to much. I've been looking at these specifically but all were out of my budget.

I guess the onkyo mentioned above would be one of them TX-SR702. Although J&R website did not mention 3 component video inputs and upcoversion, Onkyo website said it has these. $499 was a good deal.
