Like you haven't talked about it enough.
I think I want black. I don't really like the Chrome. Call me crazy, but they seem to draw too much attention. I want the whole car to be noticed as one unit, not a lot of different accessories. I want people to say, "Nice car!", not "Nice side steps, where'd you get them wheels, etc".
So now I'm trying to decide on the Steps or the Boards.
Any opinions, pros, cons?

| Black side steps! I think running boards look outdated. Black side steps on a black MDX would look really sporty. |

I think black steps or boards would be unnoticeable on a black car. If that's the look you're going for, then those would work.
I vote for steps over boards, too. Boards remind too much of a mini van. |

If I'm loading/washing the top of the car, will the Steps provide adequate support, or are they more for looks?
Also, any problems with rusting around the bolts? I heard problems with that on different trucks. |

Steps provide plenty of support.
I haven't noticed any rusting of the bolts so far. |

| I am leaning toward the boards b/c I think it blends with the car better. |

| I vote for the side steps (just installed mine on Wednesday!). They look better and don't collect a lot of crap like the running boards do. Besides, the running boards have that dreaded "minivan" look! |

Looks are way too subjective to discuss, but:
Running boards provide better surface to step on, especially for front doors entrance. They also are "classy". People can say anything they want about minivan look, but at least your X does not look like it's driven by a teenager who wants to impress his girlfriend. (Did I offend anyone?)
However, running boards do collect more dirt. It's especially true with snow! It's been two days since we had snow and my passenger side board is still full of it. I imagine with round shaped side step it would not be the case.
So, for sporty looks - side steps, for comfort and classicism - running boards. |

It should be noted that running boards also completely protect the side of the vehicle from mud and slush flying up onto the side.
Anything that the front mud guard doesn't catch, gets caught underneath the running board, meaning nothing hardly ever flies up and damages your paint. I'd imagine there is a little less protection with the side steps.
Here are some before and after picture examples of the area protected I'm talking about... |

| I personally like the look of the boards as well if u guys get snow like i do up here in Canada, the boards tend to pack in the snow and make it slippery whereas the boards tend to let it run off and not get icy. |

| Even though I have boards, go with the side steps. My bother in-law has them and they look great. Now if I had 4-5 bills I would purchase them from Tim at HAW. Hmm that's another thread under dollars and sense....('') |
