Question about temp control system - Click HERE for Original Thread

I got in my X this morning. The temperature outside was about 55 degrees and probably about 60 or so inside. I let the car warm up and then tried to put the heat on. I had it on full auto and put the temp to 80+ and all that would come out is cold air! No matter what the temp control was set at I could not get ANY heat. Just the air conditioner. This has happened a couple times in the two months I have had my X. Is this somehow just bonehead operator error or could there be a problem?

I had the same issue on my way home from buying my '05 MDX. I just turned on the AC, then turned it back off, and that did the trick. I have not that the issue since. Of course I just got it about 2 weeks ago.

My 3 weeks old MDX did the same thing twice. Putting temperature to max and lowering it back to desired level fixed it.

It seems that we might have a problem with climate control in 2005.

Does not sound right. Mine blows no air until it warms up then it is warm when it does blow. Just leave mine on 72 full auto all year.

I would go back to the dealer and get someone to give you a full briefing on how to use the climatic control system.

I doubt if it is operator error especially after the other couple posts! Probably 90% of the time the system works as it should. Then, randomly, I cannot get ANY hot air no matter what I do. I have also tried raising the temp to max and bringing it back down, tried turning it off and the to auto, then back to full auto and still only get air conditioning. I bet when I walk out to the car after work today and turn it on it will probably work fine. It will be pretty hard to take it into the dealer and complain if the problem is so intermittent. It will probably work fine when I bring it in!

Occasionally, mine does the same thing. Only cold air at 80 degrees.

My 05 is now two weeks old and I have had this happen twice. For me it seems if I turn the temp all the way up then back down I get warm air. Sounds like theres a bug in the climate control.

Same thing has happened to me once w/ my '05 owned since 1st week of Dec. It was a Sunday AM, about 55deg outside...just enough to want a slight warm air inside the car. All I got was cold air.

Parked it, and a few hours later, it worked fine when I next cranked it.

Has never happened again.

If this was an '80s Olds, I would say it had a stuck thermostat. For a 2005 MDX...dunno

No such problems so far. But I'll certainly keep an eye out for it. What I have noticed is that the car gets really, really warm. I cannot set it above 64, even in Rochester!! Must just be a helluva powerful climate control system. Anyone notice something similar?

That's not right if it persists in a long ride.

BUT- I find that while the cabin is warming up on a cold day, the front of the cabin gets too warm at 70-72. Half hour in to the ride, the temp evens out, so my feet aren't roasting.

In both my 03 and 05, I set the rear manual controls to high hot, and turn on rear manual for a few minutes to heat up the rear. (I know the climate control does this automatically, but not to the extent of high hot)

Is this issue only coming up when CC is in Full Auto? I am not a big fan of full auto because I don't like to have the fan speed turn all the way up when it tries to adjust to the desired temperture. Also, if you have the car already warmed up, could it be possible that the inside temp is already higher then the 80 degrees you set? I have my MDX for about 2 weeks now and I am thus far very happy with the CC. Gets me nice and tosty with temp only at 66 degrees.

I think the owner manual said the heater should not blow until the engine is hot enough to provide heat.
Now just remember this: even the engine is starting to warm up, hot water will not flow until the thermostat open then goes into the heat exchange in the A/C. So I think if you actually drive the car for a few minutes, you should get heat.

Yes, I don't like the Full Auto mode either. I start the car off at something like 72 and it heats up in all of 3 minutes. Then I have to take it down to 64-65 so its then blowing warm air only.

I just got back from the dealer today with my 05 mdx. Ive had it since October and have had this problem a handful of times. My dealer told me I am the second one to complain about this problem and to remedy it he ordered a part (forgot the name) for the first complaint and it fixed the problem. Today when he tried ordering me the part it was on back order but should be in within the week. Just call your dealers and they probably already have heard about this problem.
