How To Change Headlight & Foglight Bulbs
Well this is my third How-To Guide, and I'm sure some of you are thinking that I have way too much spare time. This was a very easy modification and made me wonder if it was even worth the time to create this guide, but recalling how many questions and uncertainties I had prior to the installation made me decide that it was worthwhile.
I would like to add the correct bulb sizes for all model years (I only knew the 2004). If someone can post an accurate list I would greatly appreciate it and I'm sure it will make this guide much more helpful.
Thanks and enjoy! |

| Great how-to guide! Got me thinking I can really do it by myself. Can someone post the bulbs that work with an '02 so I don't have to search all the old threads on this subject! :6: |

Lows, fogs - 9006
Highs - 9005
Is that what you needed? |

Does the '01 - '03 all have the same size bulbs? And I suppose the '05s are the same as the '04s.
Can someone verify if this list is accurate so I can add it to the how-to:
2001
Low - 9006
High - 9005
Fog - 9006
2002
Low - 9006
High - 9005
Fog - 9006
2003
Low - 9006
High - 9005
Fog - 9006
2004
Low - H11
High - 9005
Fog - 9006
2005
Low - H11
High - 9005
Fog - 9006 |

I am thinking of replacing my High Bulbs, but Hoen doesn't seem to have any 9005s. Any thoughts ?
Has anybody done this before ? |

Hoque,
Sylvania makes 9005 bulbs, if you want more of a blueish tint go with their Cool Blue bulbs instead of the SilverStars. I think they're available at most auto parts stores (Pep Boys, Advance Auto Parts, etc).
And replacing the high beam bulbs is just as easy as the low beam bulbs. As you can see from the pics in the how-to, the high beams are right next to the low beam bulbs and are just as accessible. Open your hood and take a look and you'll see how easy it is to switch them. The same steps apply, simply disconnect the wiring harness, twist the bulb base counter clockwise and slowly remove it. Twist in the new bulb, re-attach the harness and you're done. |

Morph,
I always replace mine with PIAA bulbs. What is your opinion about PIAA as oppse to your recomendated bulbs ? |
|

Fabvsix,
I have always heard good things about PIAA. Quality-wise they have an excellent reputation. I have not personally tried them because I always perceived them as being cost-prohibitive. But now that I think about it, they probably cost around as much as the Hoens.
Judging from the info on their website, they make bulbs to fit all model years of MDXs, which is a big plus. The 9005s and 9006s are offered in Star White (3800K) and Extreme White Plus (4000K). The H11 bulbs which replace the low beams on the 2004-2005 MDX are available in Extreme White Plus only.
If you or anyone else can provide me with the following info, I'll add PIAA to the How-To:
1) A reliable website to purchase PIAAs from.
2) Which bulbs do you have (Star White or Extreme White)?
3) A pic of what your headlights look like against a white wall.
4) Your opinion of them.
Thank you for bringing them up, I thought about including them but I didn't really have any info to go on, so if anyone can help out I'd be happy to add them. |

Morph,
I don't have them on my 05 yet, but had replaced all on my 03! I have replaced them on ALL my Acura's current and past with regards to the following:
ALL INTERIOR LIGHTS such as door lilghts, ceiling lights front and rear (if they apply such as MDX does), glove box, licence plate and trunk to PIAA bulbs. IT IS A MUST ! And not expensive to do. I've also replaced all of them on my 04 Acura RL except for the high beams, as the battery is in the way and I'm just too lazy to deal with it in the cold weather. It is one of my Spring projects. It makes a world of difference and may ONLY take 20 min, changing interior bulbs that is
....
I buy them from a local rice shop in Concord. He always has them in stock. They are on the list of shops when you ask PIAA's web site to locate a dealer in your area. He is the only one that came up in my area too. He's been there for several years. |

For those curious about the longevity of Hoen bulbs...
After nearly 2 years (1 year, 11 months to be exact), one of my Hoens finally went out today.
I'm very pleased with the quality, appearance and performance of these bulbs. My order is already in for a replacement set.
BTW, I need to update my guide to reflect info for the '07s. Anyone happen to know the replacement bulb sizes for the lo's, hi's and fogs? --thanks |

I have an 07'. I am looking to replace the DRL lights and the fog lights. For the Fog lights what is my best match to the HID's?
Hoen's look nice. . .How are the GE Nighthawks Sports? For an 07 will I be using the 9006 size? Thanks |

| if I get the 04 headlights for my 03. Because they use a different bulb size would I have to cut the headlight wire to fit the new sized bulbs? |
