Where is the crossover of the front speaker? Do I have to tap from the amp and wire all the way to the door? The truth is that I am a beginer and don't know how to install the crossover is the front doors. Any expert around?
BTW: I am installing a pair of component speakers in the front door of my new '05 X. |

Yes, I am an expert. I once found my elbow without even looking hard.
The "crossovers" in the factory speakers are little capacitors and resistors soldered across the speaker terminals. If you are installing a set of components, you will need to:
1. Locate the crossovers in a dry locatio, like under the dash near the doors.
2. Hook the original factory speaker wire to the input of the crossover.
3. Run two new pairs of wires from the crossover, through the rubber duct between the door and body, and into the door.
4. Hook up those wires to the sub bass and tweeters.
Step 3, fishing the wires, is a royal pain in the butt, and probably justifies paying an installer a couple of hundred to do the whole install for you. |

| To make your life a little easier, run a four conductor wire such as Monster Cable XLN16S4 or the equivalent from the crossover to the speaker through the door boot. It is tempting to put the crossover in the doors, but like shootist said, put them somewhere dry (your doors leak quite a bit of water). When running through door boots, a little lube helps quite a bit. (please insert joke here) |
