Had the car less than a month and got the first door ding, man that hurts. Now its time to try and protect it, so here is my question. Which one to get the slim version or the wide version of the BSM. Will running boards help too? I am hoping the dent wizard can work his magic out on my baby.

dax,
i understand your pain. i got my first ding within 2 weeks!! It really hurts...
BTW, Dent Wizard rocks!! They did an awesome job on mine. The ding will be history and you will never be able to notice any traces of it.
As far as BSM, get the wide one(i don't think the narrow one fit the 2005 models). I put mine in after i got the dent. I also have running boards. Together they definitely help to reduce dings.

Good luck!!

From personal experience, I would recommend using Ding King. There are similar products out there but this had metal parts and feel very solid. I bought it for $19.95 at the local auto parts store and it takes out almost all small dents.

I strongly suggest you try it. From what I have heard in these forums, BSMs are not fool proof. Depending on the other car's doors, your panels will be unprotected no matter what. I'm glad I have that kit in my garage....

you are right....BSMs are not the best door-ding protection in the world....but some protection is better than no protection....if the other person manages to hit right onto the BSMs (just even once), I think the BSMs already paid themselves off by that instance

When I installed the moldings on my vehicle I placed them about 2 1/2 in. above template. Still look good and provide just slightly more protection. I had dent right in the crease about 4 weeks into ownership and before installing moldings.

Can you please post some pictures of your doors? I want to see how the BSMs look a little higher on the door.

Don't expect the running boards to protect your doors against dings. They don't go out far enough. I am actually disappointed in them... they probably won't catch any opening doors before they hit your side. In fact, I never even use the running boards to step into the X.

I was thinking of installing them for just keeping the muck off of the doors. Supposedly, it catches a lot of snow and mud. Maybe, users who have it installed might be able to comment on its effectiveness.

I installed running boards and I like them. No, they don't protect against dings, that's for sure... but they look classy and do help getting into X. They also very handy when you need to place something on the roof. And my "shorter family members" love them for functionality while I like them mostly for looks. On the subject of molding, I personally think it's too much. MDX has very clean look and a thick molding ruining it. Now, I am looking from aesthetic perspective. I am sure thicker the molding better it works for protection.

We had the wide BSM installed by the dealer when we purchased our '04. It has definitely paid for itself! In less than 4 months there have been 2 hits on the molding by other car doors and no damage. Without the BSM, we would have had 2 major dings.
