Improving the sound on 05 X - Click HERE for Original Thread

Does anybody know how to improve the sound of the stock CD/radio system of the 05 MDX. After driving it a few weeks, I find the music coming from the stock reciever so very inferior than my Bro.-in-laws Nissan Pathfinder Bose system :3: . I already have the Bass and Treble all the way high but it seems that its still doesn't cut it. I tried looking for the Loudness button but there's seems to be none
Its such a shame that a really good vehicle doesn't have a good sound system.

I felt the same way after I bought my wife her MDX. I found a few posts about the subwoofer. It seems that people upgrade their subwoofer and add an amp to compensate for the lack of bass response in the system. I would just suggest you do a search for "subwoofer" in the forums.

I put about $600 into new door speakers, including a professional install. I am continually amazed by the quality of the upgraded stereo- incredible clarity, presence, imaging, and ok power, from a pretty stock system with stock amps and electronics. Not a custom system by any means, but the best almost-stock system I've ever had.
I may swap the sub, and may be putting in a sub amp, for giggles. I can hear very clear and satisfying bass lines in music, but not window rattling lows. Don't forget that the rear door speakers actually generate a lot of the mid and low mid bass.

The sub is one of many shortcomings in the audio system. It is not the place I started when making changes. While I wait for all of my equipment to get in so I can do an overhaul, I have replaced the front tweeter/ crossover with a 19mm MB Quart tweeter. Took about 20 minutes and made a surprising difference. I will start my real install by changing the head unit and replacing and amplifying the front door speakers. The sub will come next, then the rear midbass drivers.

If you are going to amp the rear (with new sub), then you probably should also amp the front (with new speakers too). Otherwise the sound will not be balanced as there'll be relatively too much bass. With the front amp'ed and new Polk component speakers, now my treble is set to 0. Bass is 0 too but it's relatively louder than before (mess with the gain on the amp itself) plus we get other features like being able to hit some very low frequencies. There's really no need to change the rear-door speakers or even try to amp these rear-door speakers if you have amp'ed the new front speakers - the soundstage should be at the front like having the band/orchestra sitting on your dashboard. The rear door speakers basically just becomes what we call a "rear fill" - it must be softer/quieter than the front so that we don't drag the entire soundstage off the dashboard and have it on your shoulder area (not unless you have a 20ms to 200ms time delay/alignment box/DSP for the rear-door amp/speakers). But we're now getting into way too many parts - suggest... just do the front speakers, front amp, rear sub and sub amp, and it should be rocking pretty good after that. Then your brother-in-law has to upgrade his... :)
