Well, what do you guys think of some of these antennas? I've been looking for a chrome/aluminum one for a while.

It could look pretty nice. I'd be worried about reception, but then again I mostly listen to CDs.

Antenna? Oh, almost forgot I have one back there there.
Yeah, right. Make it more appealing for thieves!
Besides, it does nothing for my XM.... :)

And how does it improve your reception? I also listen mostly to CDs or a local oldies station where reception is not a problem.

Anybody know whether I can replace my 04 (mast) antenna with a 05 (element) anatenna? My friend's 05 element antenna looks like the base of my 04 mast antenna.

Improve Reception???? That's a good one. What does function have to do with anything?? Don't be talking no function over form here!!! ;)

Actually, I really wouldn't think it much of an issue. But....if I get one, I'll let you know.

So you wanna get because it looks nicer  .

Directly from the description on ebay: "Maintain reasonable good AM/FM radio reception in city area." While the MDX doesn't shine for radio reception as-is, this sounds like a downgrade.

To each it's own, but to me it sounds like a solution to a problem that doesn't exist...

With all due respect guys, I should have been more specific. I'm not even talking about poor reception. Reception is not the reason that I want to change the antenna. I just thought a stainless steel or aluminum one might look cool.

And there is nothing wrong with that. But they are very easy to steal. And the more attention they draw....

Sure, they are easy to steal, but the current ones simply unscrew as well. I suppose it's just the "attention" that it would attract.

BTW, should the factory one get stolen, anyone know how much an OEM replacement would cost?

Don't think about things like that. It makes them happen.
It would depend on what was stolen, and how careful the thief was. If the entire assembly was pried off the roof, there would be sheet metal damage, and the repair would require peeling down some of the headliner to get to the cables.
If the stalk was simply unscrewed, it's not too expensive at all.

Cool. That's not too bad.

I think this is a cool accessory. Even know the ebay listing says "MDX," The manufacturer does not list MDX on their website as a car that they have an antenna for.

http://www.motionde.com/

None of the pictures of the antennas look like they would fit, at least not on my 2005 MDX.

Well, I bought one. When I get it I'll post pix and let you know if there's a reception difference. Also, maybe I'll slather about a gallon of locktite on it. :D ;)

Now we know where you get your accessories...:yesyes:

Well,

Got the new antenna. Took about 15 seconds to put it on. I think it's a pretty cool update for the cheap price. Reception is the same so that's not an issue. I've had it for a whole day and no one has stolen it yet. ;)

Here's a couple of photos.

I can't see how any of them would. If you're talking FM, it's pretty much line of sight. So if you need better reception, listen to a station with more power or a higher antenna. Or get satellite. :)
