I just finished installing Alpine CTA 1505 with CHA-624 CD Changer. I installed it since I had this system sitting around from my previous car. I purchased Metra Kit for $22, wiring harness from AutoZone for $10, and 22ga connectors for $2, totaling "what the heck, let's give it a try" cost of $34.
Everything else was left stock (Premium's Alpine speakers and sub).
First thing I noticed was how underpowered the stock unit is. This CTA1505 has 55w/ch and you can really hear the difference. The sound is also much clear and you can actually feel the "thump" from the base.
I think I now need new speakers as stock speakers sounds muddy at high volume so I may jump on the bandwagon of Infinity 6002I upgrade.
Thought I should share my thoughts that stock head unit is very, very bad.......... |

The power output is very low in the 'base head unit". In the Bose unit it is still very low, but they use the low-resistance speakers so they can "over state" the power.
The tuner is pretty good, the CD is one of the better mechanisms, noise rejection is very good.
If anybody decided to upgrade the order should definately be: speakers, amp, headunit. Though with the trouble you need to get an amp in I can see why you just switched out the headunit.
Good Luck! |

I agree with renov8r on the order of upgrade.
I replaced the headunit first because I had these sitting around. Otherwise, I would have upgraded the speakers first. |
